Research into the PB finalists is not pretty.
- 1 candidate’s primary residence is in Colorado - 1 candidate has a $374k IRS tax judgment/lien from 2022 - 1 candidate has a $164k unpaid IRS tax judgment from 2018 and 12 combined prior state and federal tax cases - 1 candidate is tied/alleged to have taken part in a real estate investment scam in Panama https://moderatelymoco.com/more-information-on-planning-board-finalists-plus-campaign-contributions-and-tax-liens-county-council-interviews-and-may-vote-today/ Montgomery County government is an absolute joke of an organization led by people that lack basic competence and professionalism at all levels. |
And only 1 candidate is a registered replublican, with the rule in place that no more than 3 of the 5 members can be of the same political party. |
Where can you find what party they are registered as? |
Oh man you do not want any republicans on the board. |
Yes you do. It is not only legally mandated it helps to provide a counterweight to delusional liberal anti-growth utopianism. |
LOL |
In this case, the board must have the same partisan makeup as the outgoing board, so 3 Democrats, 1 Republican, and 1 Independent, unless they’re throwing all the rules out the window. It would be ill advised to shift the partisan makeup to have, for example 2 independents, because any Republican who applied but was not selected would almost certainly have standing to sue over the process. As of now, the only person who has an obvious claim to standing is Elrich, because he’s been cut out of a process in which he has a statutory role. Maybe he’s decided to play dead on this and let the council keep digging its own hole but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him weigh in after selections when it will be harder for the council to fix its missteps. |
Citation please. |
The Parents Coalition gets a lot of stuff wrong and I'll believe that Dreyfuss isn't registered to vote here when I see evidence. But the other problems are well documented. Did anyone do any vetting of the finalists? This takes you down to seven viable candidates (and not even the right party mix) before you consider whether it's a good idea to appoint a lobbyist. |
Elrich is certainly biding his time. No way should he allow “interim” appointments for an indefinite term or the Council to pull a Trumpian move and unilaterally decide what the CE’s authority is while ignoring legislative mandates. It’s a major concern when a branch of government doesn’t respect the rule of law. Dreyfuss and Carrier should not even be eligible because they’re term limited. And even the candidates who meet the most basic criteria of not having major red flags, like Branson, are supposed to be the exact opposite of what the Planning Board needs, another politician without specific knowledge. I honestly think it’s time for M-NCPPC to be reformed at the assembly. You cannot have a legislatively appointed person who is not part of the executive in charge of a police force. You cannot have a legislatively appointed person who is not part of the executive in charge of major roads and transportation policy. Parks are also poorly run. The institution has now run its course and has been an unmitigated failure for the last decade and a half. |
The parent's coalition throws a lot at the wall, and a lot of it doesnt stick (See the "scandal" about Natali last week that was nothing), but they also unearth some gems. At least someone is keeping an eye on the store. |
The statute bars consecutive terms, so that’s not a barrier to them serving. More relevant to Dreyfuss is that his Potomac house is no longer a “principal residence” and more relevant to Carrier is that she’s a developer lobbyist at a developer law firm, so she’s going to have to recuse from a lot of decisions. I agree that the whole institution should be scrapped. Elrich is probably laying in wait as the temporary commissioner appointments create an even bigger fiasco, and then he’ll get a bill to reform planning in Montgomery County. Alternatively, Elrich could disapprove all of the appointments in the next 30 days and instantly throw the board’s legitimacy into question. The council’s decision not to include Elrich in the process (as the law requires in normal times) doesn’t prevent him from treating a press release as notification and exercising his legal authority to disapprove appointments. |
http://www.theseventhstate.com/?p=15759 But YIMBYs are so desperate to portray Elrich as opposed to housing density and affordable housing that major Real Estate Broker Liz Brent bizarrely brought the Nimbee to the event to protest Elrich even though this is exactly the sort of projects that YIMBYs claim to favor. The Nimbee sign read “Thanks, Marc for voting against this project!” even though Elrich was there to show his support for it. It was actually in the news. You can Google it and the bee has it's own Twitter account. |
