Entire Montgomery County Planning Board resigns

Anonymous
Ugh, that is so messed up! Thanks for the summary PP.

What’s the chance Elrich vetoes Thrive? I know he’s expressed skepticism in the past (to his credit).

Thank you for the summary!

Apparently in Montgomery County in the year 2022, a powerful white man cannot be reprimanded without destroying women and people of color in the process.

I am surprised Fani-Gonzalez is not sitting quietly. Varma is likely to lose his federal job because of her.

She *is* sitting quietly.

The best thing int he world for her would be for the temporary board to be approved by the 25th without much fanfare. Less scruitny of her term on the board, and her cozy relationships with the recently ousted board.

I'm not a huge fan of hers, but Verma is responsible for his own behavior. Fani-Gonzalez didn't make him do anything.

Even if one is for Thrive, it would be insulting to pass it 2 weeks after the entire planning board was fired for (insert scandal here). At least let some fresh eyes review it, and cool down for a month or three.

The problem is that they have a legislative deadline to pass it.

But I agree that this brings the whole of Thrive deeply into question and casts a serous pall over it.

Then table it for now. With the intention to revisit it when a new, permanent board is seated.

The entire planning document for the county cant be the work of a compromised board.

great summary, PP.

All you have to know that the article is b.s. is to read this line.

Anderson’s offenses were drinking in his office after hours (which he admits) and alleged colorful language (which he denies). These would not be firing offenses in many organizations.

Yeah, while drinking in the office is not a firable offense in many places, MNCPPC had a ZERO TOLERANCE policy and it was not only a firable offense there but it was already reported that people had lost their jobs over it.

This is just another white guy making excuses for his friend and fellow white guy, Casey Anderson.

Other idiocy in that article.

Continued dysfunction at the board might have provided an opportunity for Elrich to make a move. And he is VERY interested in Park and Planning.

I voted for Blair, whose failed campaign the author worked on, and this is an idiotic statement. Can you not imagine a reason why Elrich is interested in Parks and Planning?

Maybe because it’s vital for economic development?

Maybe because Casey Anderson used it as a political perch to basically run the organization as an opposition party against him?

Maybe because Elrich has responsibility for confirming the appointees?

Maybe because he thinks this episode has been disgraceful?
