Then they divorced, news of the Charles and Camilla affair went public and there were a few rough years before Charles and Camilla began showing up in the same places around 1995 and despite disapproval from the Queen who felt Diana and Charles might have been able to really give their marriage a go if Camilla has not been around - Charles introduced Camilla to his sons in 1998 and they went public again as a couple about 1999. In 2000, the Queen first acknowledged them as a couple and Camilla began attending engagements with Charles.

They moved in together in 2003, aand got engaged and married in 2005.

Camilla has talked about the vitriol and hatred she received for the affair but says she always had the support of her family who knew the full situation. These two have been in love for 52 plus years and despite it all, they are now King and Queen. I am glad she has finally gotten acceptance and recognition after all the years of hate.

The Queen's ultimate approval of Camilla came when she made her a Royal Lady of the Order of the Garter, an honor she never gave to Diana, despite her providing the heir to the throne. I know the queen did not have vengeance in her heart, but that was a direct slap at Diana. If she were alive today and the Queen did that, she would have been apoplectic because she really wanted that honor.

So they should have just kept making each other miserable and having affairs because that would be better for the crown? I get it, people loved Diana, but this is advice you would give to no one you care about.

He never should have married Diana. And when he did he should have stayed faithful. Diana would have lived him til the end.

I would not advise them to shack up with their affair partner.

I wouldn’t have either but in this case it appears his affair partner was in fact his great love.

You are watching way too much TV. The idea that people in this day and age should be forced to remain married to someone they don’t love while both having affairs is patently ridiculous. Put the crown aside, they were parents and you do not want to model that for your children.

I stand corrected. It is Birkhall in Scotland he owns personally. He inherited from the Queen Mother when she died in 2002. I knew it was one of his country homes but had the wrong one.
