I did feel awful seeing his mugshot. Seriously, this is not minimally the man we know as Navy’s principal. I seriously wonder if it was his birthday and it was one crazy “I’m gonna totally unwind and get drunk!” Vs alcoholism. Regardless, bad judgements and decisions… We will really miss him at Navy, though.

middle aged professionals do not get blasted in the middle of the day and then drive away drunk on their birthday unless they have a problem. If that was really it, wouldn't he have been drinking with friends and family who would have not let him drive?

cannot seriously people believe he "drank too much bc it was his birthday" and that's all this was.

I was a Navy parent for 8 of his years there and had no complaints with him.
I also consider myself a realist.

+1 I think that’s what’s so shocking for us. No one had any clue he had an alcohol problem. And for him to flee the scene of an accident - it’s shocking and cowardly. And refusing a breathalyzer? I feel sorry for his wife and kids.

He’s just temporary. I mean after him. When does the process to find a new long term principal begin?

He can't the reputation is ruined and what kind of message does it send to impressionable 5th and 6th graders who will find out. I hope he gets help and he will get a new chance somewhere else.

So you’re saying that everyone here did the same thing? Did any of them get arrested and charged with a felony as a drunk driver such a the Navy principal has been? Or is every single mistake/misbehavior/violation the same in your mind and deserves the exact same response?

Is Scott Bloom still on FCPS payroll? I mean he just x covered up the abuse of disabled children. So that’s apparently ok.

I don't think he should return to his job but I don't know how many parents have told their child that their Principal is gone because he was driving drunk and crashed into a house. Honestly, I am not sure that my fifth grader would realize he had a new Principal if his current Principal was replaced. I don't know that he would notice. The kdis are notlikely to know the Principal is gone. If they do notice, you can say that he left for personal reasons. There is no need to tell them that he was arrested for driving drunk.

Parents will know, and that is a different story, but the kids could probably care less.

I completely disagree. We told our kids what happened and turned it into a lesson about drinking and driving.

These principals are a jewel of honesty and responsibility. Bravo FCPS for showing kids how leadership is built.

The kids know, I assure you. We told our kids but even if we hadn’t, it was a major source of talk at school the next day. The news is being texted around. They know.
