Bridgerton, Season 2

I read all the books several times. Loved most of them. The first season was good and close enough to original story and realities regency period to be believable and yet updated and modern enough to add fun and sparkle.

Season 2 story line changes and the complete disregard for all Regency behavioral norms ruins the tale completely. The Indian angle is awful and makes no sense. The changes to the Pall Mall game made me want to cry - one if the funniest parts of the book(s) and they left those particular moves out except for a couple. Just an utterly disappointment.

Oh and Eloise is portrayed horrifically. She is dressed and coiffed as ugly as possible. Her “rebellion” is trite and far too modern. Eloise’s book was a bit dry but they have made her thoroughly unlikable in the tv show.

I have to agree.

Completely disagree, she’s stunning and so much more interesting than Daphne was.

She is very pretty and very very bad in this role. Complete mis-cast, no chemistry, ridiculous story changes and horrible acting. UGH. Season 2 storyline is now atrocious. Book was great.

Benedict and his wife to be Sofie. It’s just okay.
Then Colin and Penelope, then Eloise, then Francesca (one of my favs), then Hyacinth (other fav), then George, and then Violet their mother, herself!

I'm making myself binge watch and I'm doing a million other things because it is s.o s.l.o.w.

I *finally* got to when Antony and Kate kiss, which was pretty disappointing and very…mash-y? It just looked like their skulls were mashing.

I can’t believe I’m going to say this after the extreme cringe of season 1 but I think…I think this season needs more jizz.

Are you not a little pissed that they erased colonization? Queen Charlotte at least got a speech about how she romanced away racism by dazzling the ton or whatever.

Just finished season 2. Not as steamy as season 1 obviously but I liked it just fine. Anthony in particular surprisingly moved me to tears with the trauma of his father’s death. Even the love between the king and queen was pretty heartbreaking. The only character I really like, though, is Penelope.

I LOVED Season 2! I liked the unusual angle, I liked both the main characters. I thought their chemistry was much better than Daphne and what’s his name. Those two were so awkward to watch. Season 2 was light, fun, sexy and addicting.

That’s IF they follow the book order. There’s been talk
that they might not.

I don't get the point of the Indian angle.

Ewwww. There was no chemistry. Season 2 was dreadful. Daphne and Simon were loads sexier and more fun. Kate and Anthony were just an awful combo. Even looked bad together.

What is there to get? Are you uncomfortable with non-white characters?

I'm partway through and think it's just fine for what it is. I like Kate better than Daphne. Benedict is becoming one of my favorite characters and the look on Penelope's face was priceless when her mother suggested her sister could marry their cousin.

That's not how the series works. It's based on a set of novels that are each about a different sibling. I am hearing a TON of buzz!

Hmmm, I told you they should have kept the original characters. Dead in the water.

'Most of the bedroom scenes were previously supplied by Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Bridgerton and Rege-Jean Page as her husband, the Duke of Hastings. But he doesn't appear in series two and she is more of a background character.

...

'Now all the romance revolves around Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan, and new character Kate Sharma, played by Simone. But their lust never progresses beyond flirtation and a nearly kiss.'

You really think they aren’t going to have them do sex scenes? They don’t follow the books word for word.

I don’t ‘think’ anything. The reviews are in

https://variety.com/2022/tv/reviews/bridgerton-season-2-review-anthony-kate-1235208981/amp/

The review says they have sex.

The reviews say there is barely any sex, at the last moment, rushed and the show is boring. Like I said.

But over the course of the season’s eight episodes running a solid hour-long each, this “Bridgerton” return too often feels like a luxurious carriage stuck in the mud, spinning its wheels before eventually heaving itself back on the road.

There’s always pornhub.

Copious sex was the only reason Bridgerton 1 took off astronomically in comparison to say...Victoria or Downton Abbey.

Without it AND the original main characters they're sunk. That's all I'm saying.

Downton was hugely popular and was watched by more people than Bridgerton. But even Downton had its own sex scene, albeit off screen.

Downtown took 3-4 seasons to get to the level of cult popularity it has today.

Bridgerton did it in one. So did Outlander btw.

Downton was hugely popular from the get-go. It turned Julian Fellowes into an overnight star, along with most of the cast. I'm sure it became even more popular as time went on, but not 3-4 seasons to hit its stride. The first season was a phenomenal success and launched it as a global phenomena.

Downtown Abbey premiered worldwide in 2011. The rights to stream it on Amazon Prime wasn't even acquired until 2013 - in season 3. Until then it was strictly on PBS which no one watches. Try again.

+1 Plus, Julian Fellowes has been around for ages in both TV and novels.

Anthony in Season 2 is horrible. Overacting, far more obnoxious than in the book. Kate is also far more obnoxious in the series than in the book. And I don't remember at all her going up against Lady Danbury.
