Your interpretation of her quoted statement shows your racism and it’s clear. |
What is your non racist interpretation of that quote? Now, before you reply, reverse the races and see if you hold the same opinion. |
She was being confident talking to another young girl who happened to be Black. Letting the other girl know, if she works hard, the sky is the limit. |
Crickets. This thread is a great example of why dialogue about race in 2022 is not constructive. Somebody throws out an accusation of racism that is impossible to test, measure, prove or disprove. Anybody who opposes or questions that person is called a racist. |
| Agree this thread has run its course. Take it to Political. |
+1. The white supremacists will just continue to deny and pretend there is no racism. It’s pointless. |

Maybe we can stop name calling and agree: Lacrosse would benefit from more diversity, and if it doesn't diversify, it will remain a 'lower-tier' sport.
Racism and bigotry are a real, ongoing problem in society and lacrosse is not some 'safe haven.' Bias is a real issue. That being said, no way any ref is going to call a penalty on a middle school girl simply for yelling 'Got ball!' when she is on defense. And the fact that WaPo and the G family tried to highlight that incident and pass it off as a true, prime example of 'racism in the sport' is disingenuous at best. The editor should have demanded more context or removed that paragraph entirely because it just isn't credible. I'd love to see the game film of that incident. Would it show a 'racist ref' taking out bias on an innocent kid communicating with her teammates the way her coaches taught her? Or, more likely, did the young lady in question do something else that led to the penalty? WaPo's attempt to gloss over the details of that incident undercut the credibility of other parts of the story. But it doesn't mean the entire premise is false. I accept what others in this forum pointed out: white kids on teams have the exact same experiences of being told to play D if they are fast, or don't get passed to by certain players on a cliquey team. Still, it is SAD that this young woman is the only Black player on the U-16 team and that just shows USA Lacrosse has a ways to go to get kids interested in the sport. 30% of MD is Black. 50% of DC is Black. Most local youth lacrosse rosters don't come close to reflecting that. The lacrosse community should be doing more to be inclusive. It would benefit the kids, the sport, and the community. |
There are lots of things white supremacists do that are absurd and hard to believe. I have been around long enough to know these things happen. I believe what the girl says happened and worse has probably happened where she was probably too busy being a kid to notice. |
Cute article, cute family….but who really asked???? Class of 24 has a new StageMom. Colorado and California, step aside there’s a new Laxmom in town! |
Certain cultures may not have the same interest in certain sports so I don’t think it’s necessary for a team to mirror the percentage of the local population, however if a kid is trying to play and a coach does anything less than encourage that kid to be the best player he can be, that adult is a scumbag. |
Did it occur to you that reflexively calling everybody a racist and white supremacist actually hurts your cause? |
Who says everyone is a white supremacist. However, if someone’s behavior is consistent with white supremacist behavior, I think it’s fair to suspect thy may be a white supremacist. And when someone sees white supremacy and they turn a blind eye to it, that’s a soft way to supporting white supremacy. |
| Honestly, who cares at this point? There is nothing stoping these kids from getting into the sport. This thread is an example of making a mountian out of a mole hill. Yes, maybe there will be a few awkward incidents if team demographics shift, but if people just are just decent human beings, things will sort themselves out. Its not that serious. |
Can we agree that the person who wrote the post beginning "maybe we can stop name calling" has not said or done anything to justify being called a racist or white supremacist, and that calling him/her a name like that would be wrong? |
I didn’t see anything racist in the post that started the topic, however the post at 17:26 is a little suspect to me because the person is attempting to discredit the story that the family is telling because she doesn’t think anyone could be so racist. She wasn’t there, but is telling a family that they didn’t see what they say they say. Since denial of racism is something white supremacists due, I think it’s appropriate to suspect this person could be a white supremacist. But they may not be one. |
