This!! I’m feeling optimistic about our city. The problem is everyone else around us.

My friends outside of DC from Texas to Fairfax are jealous we have done this. I hope it works - it’s a good effort.

Our school has emailed no aftercare but school is in session.

Just because I am pointing out a reality that even Dr. Fauci has repeatedly acknowledged doesn't mean that I don't care about other people. I have immunocompromised family members myself, but I don't take comfort in wishful thinking. They have always had to take precautions, even before Covid. Please take your uncontrolled rage off the anonymous internet and find other outlets than throwing blind insults at people about whose predicaments you know nothing.

The virus is not going to be eliminated, true. But that doesn't mean we should abandon all efforts to keep it from spreading easily, such as telling people who are actively contagious not to come to school. We should also, in the Before Times, have been telling people who actively had the flu not to come to school, it's just that we didn't have at-home rapid flu tests.

Testing and finding out who has it is a big step AWAY from the kind of restrictions that everyone is — correctly, now that we have many effective vaccines and, at least at the moment, an apparently less dangerous strain of the virus circulating — objecting to. If a large number of the people who actively have covid don't come to school, there's much less of an argument to close the school. Same thing goes for any other public setting.
