Honestly these tests have been available on weekends at libraries and fire stations. FREE. I don't agree with this sentiment. There was no rule that the test HAD to be picked up at YOUR kid's school. That was yet another attempt to make access to tests easier for residents. Compared to the rest of the DMV, we have much better access to free testing. Not going to fault the mayor or city government here. There was plenty of notice and tests could have been picked up at any point over the last weekend.

Well given that Children’s hospital has had to send a letter out and turn away DC school parents, this has obviously been a hardship for many families. Not as “easy” as you would suggest. Maybe you should volunteer to help test kids that show up for school tomorrow. There will be many that show up via public transportation.

How many neighbors have you personally helped out with this? And you realize that the PCR tests at Childrens won't satisfy this requirement, right? Like - it needs to be the rapid tests administered today and results submitted by 5 pm.

I had to wait a minute to get entry to the site, but it was easy to upload, even on my old phone.

Then why does the portal ask which type of test?

A rapid PCR will satisfy the testing requirement. A regular one won't because it has to be taken today and there isn't time to get the results. So if you did it at one of those places that turns it around in an hour or two, you could use that.

Some places offer same day PCR. They are $$$ though.

The antigen tests were really easy to do and easy to upload results.

Exactly. This was a pretty massive undertaking by DCPS in a relatively short amount of time. Omicron is causing problems for school systems across the country, not just here. Given the hysterical hostility of some on this board, it's no wonder that we lose some talented teachers/admin. The constant negativity is part of the problem.

I agree. There were certainly hiccups, but I've talked to friends in other places and DC is doing a much better job in terms of free testing and tests, and omicron is causing problems for many school districts and other industries. The idea that there wouldn't be any inconvenience or problems was never realistic, but I think they've done a decent job in a short amount of time.

Uploaded this am, no problem. Is this perfect, no. But it will certainly weed out a few positive cases, curb potential spread, and make a class quarantine less likely.

Totally easy for me too. And it caught at least one covid case among my group of friends, so that's helpful.

Best of luck, everyone!
Anonymous
Totally easy to pick up the tests and to upload the results today.

Just did it - very easy. No problem. DCPS and DC government is doing a great jobs with making these tests available. Everyone in surrounding areas are having a hard time getting them when they need them.

It caught a few kids and, consequently, their parents, all of whom are now quarantined.

It was easy for me. Easy to pick up tests (I went to the school nearest me, but not my kids' school), easy to administer, and easy to upload results. I did hear of one kid who was asymptomatic and positive, so I certainly think it's preventing at least some potential spread.
