PSAT results came out

I can’t seem to pull up scores. My DD says she did not provide her email address on the exam sheet. We created a College Board account last night, but I get an error when I try to pull up scores.

My junior, who has an UW 3.6, didn't break 1000, and frankly I'm just shocked they sat for the entire test because of how bad their test anxiety is. But the score proves what I suspected, which is that test optional is the only option for them. And that's fine, so far the only schools on their list fit the bill.

And DCUM is filled with parents of kids who took the actual SAT before junior year (or very early) as a junior but my kid’s school advises waiting until later junior year bc they often get a bump bc of the curriculum they learn junior year. Just another perspective.

This isn’t true for most kids in this area, as most have the math that is tested on the standardized tests prior to junior year.

It is what my kid in DC private heard (and also his experience). Am attending a meeting on testing so I can see if they say something else.

This is incorrect. DC follows whichever state has the highest score, in this case, it was MD.

Actually, this is wrong. The highest cutoff is typically DC, Mass and CA. We live in MD but DD goes to school in DC. When she was NMSF, the cutoff was 223 in DC and 221 in MD. Look at historical data.

No, I was correct. DC follows the highest state score. For this year, MD scored the highest so DC has the same cutoff point. In other years, it may be a different state that has the highest score. Understand??

My kid received an 1170. Not up to DCUM standards but still perfectly acceptable.

Our sophomore got an 1150. Decent. Hoping with prep he can get an SAT of 1350+.

Son is now a senior. In 10th grade, he got an 1170 PSAT. He has taken two SATs since then. His high for a single sitting is 1460, his superscore is 1490. He did have a tutor for the SAT. The 1170 is just a milestone in the high school journey.

Thanks. It'd be great if he could get over 1400 on the SAT. He has ADHD and said he ran out of time on a couple of the sections (and definitely missed most of the last questions in those sections), so I'm hoping prep will also help with that issue.

Why is everyone so focused on email? Just log into College Board account...scores have been there since yesterday morning!

We have. It says score is still pending. Tried all the the tricks from vpn to Khan Academy.

My son't DC score still says pending. He said other kids at school have theirs.

We’re still pending. From Twitter just now:

If a kid has completed Algebra 2 and geometry, they have had all the math that is tested on sat.

But they would have an extra year of skills in general -- more reading, english etc.

My kid is a junior and got a 1480. We are happy but expected something like that as they are a good test taker. But they attend a DC private school, so not sure if it will be good enough for national merit- read all the threads and not sure how to figure out when and if we will know?I know I need to figure out their NMSC number right/

My junior who has a 3.8 UW got a 1260 which is, frankly, a little disappointing. She had a 1230 her sophomore year. She just took the SAT this past weekend and it sounds like she found it easier than the PSAT -- at least time pressure didn't seem to be a factor for her in the SAT the way it was for her in the PSAT.

Guess we'll see whether her impression of the SAT being easier holds up. Sometimes it just boils down to whether you're having a good day.

Anonymous wrote:My kid got 1280....97%. I feel good about that, but I see some test prep in their future this summer. 99% percentile in reading/writing and 92% in math. Math actually came up a lot since last year, so I think with some more preparation, their score could go up quite a bit more. I don't know like 1550 high, though. It's kind of crazy that it's 97%, and I'm not sure whether to be disappointed?????

Is your child in grade 10?

Mine is in grade 11 and was low 1400s and I think was 97th percentile. [/quote
No way 1280 is 97 percentile for a junior.

I think something is off about the percentages. My neighbor’s daughter got an 1170 and it says 89%. That’s hard to believe.

I'm the above poster with an 11th grader. I suspect your neighbor's daughter is a freshman, like the child with 1280 is a 10th grader.

For those with kids in grades 9 and 10, the math on the PSAT/SAT is up through Alg 2. If your child hasn't taken yet or has just started it this year, it will greatly affect their scores. Meaning, they will definitely improve!

Thank you. My freshman is 95th percentile for language and 75th for math. DC is not a great test taker. Glad to know there is a chance to bring the math score up after algebra 2.

My kid with test anxiety and ADHD scored 1150 without prep. It is a surprise to me as I was expecting under 1000. My kid came out of the test convinced he had failed.

We had been only looking at test optional, but maybe I should reconsider? How much could prep help?

With 1480 in DC, you won’t know for sure until September

Depends upon breakdown.
760/720 = 224 - almost certainly qualifies
720/760 = 220 - very unlikely
