Also, it’s not “not performing well”. SYC U15 and yo are basically getting played off the pitch.

This is the rumor we have heard as well. Even without MLS Next, Arlington ECNL is miles beyond SYC in terms of success, development, recognition, and so on. It is certainly deserved. Best SYC players can continue to go to McLean, VDA, Arlington and probably Alexandria now.

I have seen the training formats and it’s all the same from 9 vs. 9 on up. It worked great for us, and, I can see its limitations.

Please, coach. Tell me. And this is really embarrassing I can get more information from SYC coaches in an anonymous forum than I can from “evaluations” or the preseason meetings.

Top talent left years ago for existing DA or ECNL teams like VDA, Arlington, McLean etc. They performed fine at CCL but MLSNext is higher competition. It really isn't more complicated than that.

Winning at the next level might need higher quality coaching but the talent on those older teams simply isn't there. The younger teams are retaining their talent as well as attracing some outside players.

I'm simply repeating myself at this point and yet again, you are not only to stupid to understand you are to stubborn to try an understand.

I could care less where you take your kid and I'm not trying to convince you to stay with SYC but you are not really looking at the bigger picture properly and you will likely simply double down and make another bad decision because your overall logic is wrong.

Once again, ONLY a coach would know this and use it as an excuse.

Know what exactly? That talented kids with hopes of playing in college leave their neighborhood club teams for a club/team that play in a showcase league? LOL, yeah, real inside information there. Only a coach could possible know this. Lol.

There are people on these boards that have gone through this and are telling you honest information. Your not liking what you’re being told doesn’t invalidate it.

Older SYC teams are not performing well, this isn’t at all surprising but that also doesn’t necessarily reflect the potential of the younger teams.

And to address the other posters, no Arlington is not going to move to MLSNext and SYC is not going to lose their spot either after just two years of the league’s existence.

Arlington is welcome either way. They are going to be fine either way and their entry into mls next would not displace SYC. I don’t know where this comes from re SYC because it is demonstrably false. We heard the same thing two years ago and SYC only got stronger at age groups deciding where to play u13-15. McLean and VDA are not in the conversation for top players U13-15, although they have talented players who themselves who could be competitive at DCU tryouts. I don’t think any of this behavior is necessarily rational. But it is what anybody can see at these ages.

You should spend less time on these PARENT forums, coach. We can see the path your program leads our children to and we can make decisions ourselves. The more you come on here, the more it has established the decision to leave.

Not if they want the girls to stay in the ECNL

ECNL's "all in" would certainly come into play here.

There are a few clubs out there with the boys side in ECNL and the girls side is in GA. I suspect those clubs will be brought in line within the next couple of years with both sides in ECNL.

If Arlington moved their boys side to MLSNext there is a good chance ECNL would kick the girls side out in favor of a club that would be "all in".

It would take a couple of seasons for ECNL to further separate from GA before they actually did this but it would be the likely outcome even though it would not be immediate.

And of course this gets highjacked by girls soccer parents.

This is particularly funny since SYC already has a foot in ECNL through VA Union, and Bethesda is already split.

I think MLS Next would be happy to welcome Arlington's top team into MLS Next without ejecting anybody else. Arlington could field an ECNL team on the boys side, just like SYC/VA Union or any number of other clubs with teams in both ECNL and MLS Next.

Arlington would not take

Correct people forget that Arlington had DA and was offered MLS Next which Arlington denied. Further proves that ECNL for boys isn't a 2nd tier league

It doesn’t prove anything about ecnl, and Arlington did not get all age groups, which is why they refused to go back on ecnl decision.

Arlington were offered all age groups this year and declined.

Just my two cents, but don’t worry much about the league. Beyond MLS Next, MLS leaves a LOT to be desired, especially our local trash franchise.

I think the same is true for clubs as well. Pretty irrelevant. And I totally agree about MLS. We don’t watch it at all. Our kid just wanted to play with a better team against other really good teams.

ECNL is just a much better platform for girls, and it is becoming the premier brand for boys OUTSIDE of the ACTUAL MLS League. What SYC is in is basically just EDP.

No, you’re really not. You know way too much about other clubs and can’t criticize SYC at all. This isn’t the first time SYC coaches have been on this forum.

Thanks again to girls soccer parents, who know absolutely nothing about boys soccer or leagues. SYC is much better than Arlington at ages below Arlington’s last DA team. They are gonna continue losing players because they want their girls to play ecnl. If SYC is EDP then ECNL must be ODSL on the boys side. If Arlington were ever respected as much as Bethesda, they would have received an invite to be one of the core members of MLS Next and they would have had leverage to split boys and girls into different leagues. That just wasn’t and isn’t the case.

Exactly, if clubs want the top boys, they have to put their girls teams in second or third tier leagues.

Well that doesn’t reflect well on the Arlington girls either - they cannot get in on their own, like Bethesda. Nor does it reflect well on the ECNL.
