Let's take it from the top and in little baby steps, because it is really simple: 1. SYC got teams into MLS Next for U13 and !4 two years ago with little or no time to recruit during Covid. The U13 team did well; the U14 team was less successful. 2. SYC merged with McLean to form VA Union. 3. SYC received MLS Next teams for all age groups. ECNL teams for VA Union are also available for SYC players that do not make MLS Next. 4. SYC's U14 and U15 teams continue to compete effectively. Their U13 team is extremely good. The older MLS Next teams are struggling because (a) none of the expanded age groups at any area clubs had time to recruit players, and (b) at older ages, most talented players have gone to DCU or elsewhere, and kids that form the backbone of rosters on younger teams outside areas like McLean tend to drop from all pay-to-play clubs as they get older. My son is at a rival club, and I am not fond of SYC, but I sincerely don't understand why you don't follow this and see this as a pretty good record of expansion and success. It is way too early to conclude that this will work, but it is preposterous to infer anything about the progression of younger teams recruited to MLS Next teams from older MLS Next teams that were not recruited. |
| Arlington is expected to take SYC MLS spot |
Not if they want the girls to stay in the ECNL |
ECNL's "all in" would certainly come into play here. There are a few clubs out there with the boys side in ECNL and the girls side is in GA. I suspect those clubs will be brought in line within the next couple of years with both sides in ECNL. If Arlington moved their boys side to MLSNext there is a good chance ECNL would kick the girls side out in favor of a club that would be "all in". It would take a couple of seasons for ECNL to further separate from GA before they actually did this but it would be the likely outcome even though it would not be immediate. |
And of course this gets highjacked by girls soccer parents. This is particularly funny since SYC already has a foot in ECNL through VA Union, and Bethesda is already split. I think MLS Next would be happy to welcome Arlington's top team into MLS Next without ejecting anybody else. Arlington could field an ECNL team on the boys side, just like SYC/VA Union or any number of other clubs with teams in both ECNL and MLS Next. Arlington would not take |
Correct people forget that Arlington had DA and was offered MLS Next which Arlington denied. Further proves that ECNL for boys isn't a 2nd tier league |
As far as I can tell, Arlington don't want it. It was offered and they declined. |
It is not at all hijacked, but claiming Arlington moving to MLSNext would likely not happen due to the impact on the girls side. |
It doesn’t prove anything about ecnl, and Arlington did not get all age groups, which is why they refused to go back on ecnl decision. I don’t think it matters much anyway. Talent will continue going elsewhere at younger ages now that those clubs have MLS Next pathways and better teams and equivalent or better coaches in specific age groups. Arlington has not been very competitive among top boys clubs and teams as they make transition to U12 and U13, which means they are not attracting as many top players from elsewhere and are losing players to other clubs that have better teams. |
Yeah, you are right, boys soccer parents prattle on all the time about the ga and the importance of keeping girls in ecnl. |
You're prattling on about it. It is a consideration of fact for Arlington. That is a simple fact. It is not prattling on it is not hijacking. ECNL strongly encourages a "All In" commitment from its member clubs. There are some rare exceptions of clubs straddling ECNL and MLSNext. Arlington is not a dominant club like PDA. Bethesda is the only local club with boys in MLSNext and girls in ECNL. And whether you like it or not if ECNL begin to hold some of these clubs feet to the fire it can affect the participating clubs you would play against. But, I'm certain you're the same guy who doesn't understand why older SYC teams are not performing well in MLSNext. If you are the same guy you continue to prove yourself ignorant at every turn. |
I am certain that this is you whenever anyone makes a simple and straightforward point to you.
|
And now I am positive you are a girls soccer parent. Please leave the rest of us and emojis and eyes and videos out of our discussions. I hope that is not too difficult for you to understand. |
Do you need a hug? |
Once again, ONLY a coach would know this and use it as an excuse. |
