| U15B team had a player use the f bomb at an opposing team parent. Ref gave the kid a red card. |
What did the opposing team parent say or do for the player to use the f bomb? |
We're teaching them a lot of things these days. If the only really bad idea they learn in school is being rude to others then I think you should consider yourself lucky. |
| Yep! My kid passed back to a teammate, and the parent near me yelled, "Wrong way!" Rolling my eyes. |
Their behavior is unacceptable. It's pathetic for grown people to make fun of girls. I saw this behavior at a school in NoVa. Rotund older men yelling names at teen girls. Obviously, insecure men. |

Use of profanity by a player is a red card offense (Rule 12). This enforcement is mediated by the content of the profanity and the purpose or cause for the profanity. A player gets hurt and yells “Fxxx”. Not really going to result in a red. Player gets into it with an other player - yep. That will be a red.

| I don't even yell at my son's teammates in high school, nor do I complain loudly about them. I may make a quiet comment to my family about a bad play or some kid who is not putting in the effort, but that's about it. |
Pretty bad rule, 17-18 year olds Gould not be sent off for saying a bad word. |
Agreed. Personally, at that age, I always let the ref know that I thought he was f****** p**** before the game started and then regularly throughout the ninety minutes. I found most refs appreciated my frank and honest approach and in many cases actually singled me out for special praise. |
Girls team I assume? |
Wrong! Use of profanity is not a red card. LAW 12! No where in the laws do they even mention the word profanity. What is a red card is offensive, abusive, or insulting language and/or actions. A kid making a mistake and saying F is not a red card. A kid calling another player a slur is. |
| I find it ironic to hear so many parents threaten violence against someone who were to yell at their kid. Two wrongs dont make a right. |
You just restated the other post. What do you think profane language is other than “offensive”? Will it’s use always result in a red card? Nope. The other post is correct. It could result in a red card, but officials will consider the context. A kid using a swear word while lying on the ground with a broken bone - not going to be a problem. A kid squaring off against another using a series of f bombs - yep that’s a red. |
The poster wrote..."Use of profanity by a player is a red card offense (Rule 12)." That's not true. Then the poster gets it straightened out for the most part. Your post is accurate it. It's up to the ref to decide what language is offensive. |
Ha. I'm a 5'4", 130 pound former D1 soccer player. Female. I have told a few of the dads to 'shut the F up' when their bellowing was out of control. I got mad respect from everyone and even some of the dads later came over and apologized. It set the tone for the sidelines and people starting becoming more respectful in general. My father was a travel soccer coach for a few decades and he always joked, it was 'great, except for the parents ". As a grandfather, he had ZERO tolerance for sideline coaching at his grandsons' games. I still remember when I as a field marshall at a tournament and there was all kinds of commotion on one of the fields...and my husband (also field marshall) said he had to interject because my 76-year old father told some obnoxious a-hole parent screaming directions to the players "Hey Pal, Coaches sit over there" as he pointed across the field to the team bench. My dad was ready to come to blows with the guy. I miss him .
