She knows vaping is illegal. She knows she's not supposed to do it at school. A friend invited her to smoke in the hall. So, of course, she accepted. I'm at a loss.
A lot of her friends vape in parks around the school. |
| I hope you give her appropriate consequences. |
|
Sounds like you are well aware that she vapes and you're cool with it as long as she doesn't do it at school. Why are you at a loss at her behavior? Of course she's going to do it at school. Probably has a million times already, the only difference is she got caught this time.
Will there be consequences at home? Time to step up and parent. She also needs new friends. |
| In the hall? I’d be pissed at the sheer stupidity. At least go to the bathroom. |
| I would change her school and ground her every night. |
|
And what are you doing about it?
If she has ADHD, perhaps she needs a dose adjustment. |
+1 Personally, I’m glad she was suspended for school. |
What about the OP’s posts suggests that she has ADHD? |
| Vaping is dumb - and I’m sure you told her that, as has probably everyone. Kids do dumb things. The thing that’s really concerning is the blatant disregard for rules and consequences (and I’m not talking about health). I hope you can figure out how to get a handle on this and that pandora’s box hasn’t been opened. |
PP you replied to. Nothing at all. It's just way harder to teach delayed gratification and impulse control to a child with ADHD, which is why they needs meds, and the correct dose, which can vary as they develop and grow. People with ADHD are more likely to become addicts than people without ADHD, and they self-medicate or self-soothe with all kinds of substances, because of their impulse issues and possible need to reduce anxiety and associated feelings. Just throwing it out there just in case. Someone who can't say no to a friend in such circumstances raises red flags. |
| There goes Ivy League. |
|
Some children suffer from anxiety; and they self-medicate to cope with being the victim of a mental illness.
Isn’t suspension a little harsh? And whatever happened to second chances? |
She’s not expelled. She does get a second chance. |
| The old "my friend made do it" line. |
Ha yep. I would bet my house that the friend told her parents that it was DD’s idea. |
