No teacher thinks there should be permitted drug use zones. But where’d the kids get the money for the vapes? Why don’t their parents know they have them? Are we a rehab or a juvenile facility or a school? How am I supposed to teach 120 kids when I’m constantly policing vapes? Parents need to handle this in THEIR HOMES |
I'm sympathetic with the go along to get along, at that age. But she broke the rules. End of story. And as for "parks around the school" surely you understand that is different than "in the hall" of the school. I hope this is a learning opportunity for you and her, on many levels. GL. |
I did it in the hallway in seventh grade 30+ years ago (cigarrettes). We did not get caught by the school but by a friend's parent who read her journal. We were not allowed to hang out together for awhile, and when we were finally allowed, I was thoroughly embarrassed to be around her parents. I am an upstanding citizen and contributing member of society. Give her consequences, but dont be so hard that she will be afraid to approach you some day when she has a real problem |
I know it was big around 2017-2018, but it seemed to have gone out of style a few years later. |
It seemed to and then it came back over the pandemic when they were… at home with their parents. Now it’s worse than ever. And look, I am NOT the person who blames all teenage behavior we deal with at school on parents. But vaping is 100% in the territory of what parents need to be dealing with. Search their bags, rooms, you can smell it for God’s sake. Don’t send them to us so they can sit in our class bleary eyed or obsessively ask to use the bathroom and stay gone for 15-20-25 minutes vaping with their friends. They can barely go 10 minutes at school without hitting the nic so there’s no way you’re not in some way seeing that at home if you’re paying attention to them at all. |
