They can ignore one person. They cannot ignore 100 or 500. That's why RIO worked.

Those parents are in a tough spot. How do you argue for other people's kids to get moved into your school, when they are all kicking and screaming to stay out?

Yes! Even though those people did not necessarily live in Crossfield boundary. Amazing.
A little over 70 percent were from 20171, 22033, and the Reston zip where a handful of Crossfield students live. Around 30 percent even come from outside the area. No clue if they come from Fairfax or elsewhere. Could be grandparents, etc.

Its ridiculous that FCPS considered the opinions of people who don't even live nearby.

Its takes a certain level of hubris, snobbery and obnoxiousness that the Westfield parents don't seem to have.

2008 South Lakes PTSA were masters of that! Had maps on their website of acceptable areas for their school. They actively rejected other areas.

And now many of those families impacted want to leave SLHS, how did that work out for them?

They don't need to advocate to move a specific area into westfield. They only need to complain for ultra low expected enrollment for westfield and the negative impact of it. They can demand the board to solve the problem. The school board need to think about how to fix the problem. If not this time, at least next time they can try to fix it. Otherwise, they have to worry about their re-election.

Although my kids are not impacted this time, I feel so disappointed about all the school board members for not doing their job. I will definitely vote for a different person next time, whoever that caddidate is.

Did this really happen? Are the maps alive online somewhere?

Yes. They really did that. Someone posted it on Fairfax Underground. They took it down, but not before a lot of people saw it. And, they did not change their efforts. They really wanted Armstrong And Aldrin as they were "Reston" schools, but Herndon PTSA protested.

I dont know if Citizen participation is still available on video, but families begged to change IB to AP. Likely same whose neighbors lobby for Skyview today. Almost 20 years later.

Oak Hill parents on the call were BEGGING him to move kids in your neighborhood from Franklin to Carson, so you'd better organize your neighbors and get your voices heard if you don't want that to happen.

That makes them act crazy if they sense their desperate grip on the bottom of the social climbing ladder is being loosened.

So, what did McDaniel end up saying to the Crossfield families?

They want to move to Carson so that they move with the rest of Oak Hill to Skyview. If they go to Franklin, they will go to Chantilly. A large number of kids from Oak Hill already go to Carson for AAP so the change is not going to be that drastic and the bus ride is stupidly close. The choice is walk to MS and split off from your ES friends for MS and HS or take a short bus ride to Carson and stay with the rest of the ES.

I get that, but my point to that PP was that people are begging for this to happen. If she doesn't want it to happen, she needs to establish a Rooted in Franklin group and be loud, loud, loud. As we've learned, the loud parents are the only ones that can make change happen.
