Yes. Pretty sure they were Frankllin Farm parents of kids who go to Oak Hill. People seem to think Franklin Farm is only Crossfield and Navy. |
Yes, it happened. SLHS PTSA only wanted MC and UMC families to be moved to the school to improve test scores. Herndon wanted to keep their MC and UMC families for the same reason. I believe either McNair or Coates were offered to SLHS but SLHS PTSA did not want either of those schools. Floris and Fox Mill were offered as tribute while others close by were able to organize enough to not be moved. SLHS is a great community and a good school, if it had AP there would be less desire to move and I think more families would have been fine with the move in 2008. Instead, FCPS continues to push IB and SLHS loses 30-40 students per grade to AP schools and TJ ever since. Expect that number to grow with Skyview being closer then Herndon. More parents will be comfortable sending their kids to Skyview because of the lower FARMs rate and the pathways. |
I am curious how do you know which comment is from which zip code? Did they publish percentage of comments by zip code? |
It’s wild to me that so many people continue complaining about how various parents are coming together to advocate for what they believe is right for their kids. Every single person in this county has access to the boundary tool. Every single person can attend a boundary meeting in person or via Zoom. Every single person can email their school board members or text their neighbors or talk to their communities. If you are choosing not to do this, then you have zero right to complain. If you think it’s so “disgusting,” stop wasting your time posting on this forum and go take action that’ll actually move the needle. |
+1 |
Maybe but the poorest areas zoned to Oakton HS are all near Oakton and feed to Mosaic and Marshall Road ES. |
Sounds like the SB and FCPS are only listening to certain groups. |
Doesn't Oakton have a FARMs rate of like 6%? They barely have any poor areas. |
|
The SB and professional FCPS staff are supposed to make decisions based on what's best for all the students.
They shouldn't be swayed by the loudest screamers in the room or the savviest organizers. |

Not sure what Seema Dixit's paid full time staffers do all day, but its not replying to constituents b/c she ignored both my emails as well!
|
Gosh, you all finally figured it out! We’re all insecure and that’s exactly what’s driving us to speak up on behalf of our kids. It is mind-boggling the assumptions people make on this thread simply because they have a different perspective than constituents who have made their opinions known. Sincerely, A “poor” Oakton HS parent from Herndon |
Agreed. There are lots of ways to contact people and have your voice heard. The big difference, I think, is that the people who are passionate about the subject one way or the other have taken the time to organize and are communicating to post comments, send emails, and post on FB. The people who are not happy with the changes seem to be less organized. And I think that there are a lot of people who don’t care. Crossfield seems to have a group of parents that want to move to Skyview but they have posted that they are worried about their kids social life at school if the parents speak too loudly about moving from Oakton. It is a weird vibe. The ones who want to move have been vocal but some have been abrasive. Westfields lack of a voice has been surprising. I don’t even think that the Centreville families have had to be all that loud to fight moving. It is weird. |
They are elected officials who want to be re-elected. What did you expect? have you watched the moderate Republican Party cow before MAGA because they are afraid of getting primaried out? What makes you think that elected School Board officials are going to do more? |
Centreville hasthe advantage of Seema Dixit living in their boundary and making sure to take care of her neighborhood. The ONLY area moved out of "overcrowded" CVHS was a low income apartment building that is closer to CVHS than areas that stayed put? That's shady AF. |
There's a map at bottom of change petition. It groups 70% as coming from three zips. Does not say where other 30% come from |
