Well, there are new development everywhere. But the county changed the zoning and Reston will have very high density. You don't see those tall buildings in Western Fairfax except in Reston. |
Dp. They're not changing elementary boundaries now. That's a decision based entirely on community feedback. |
That’s interesting. I heard some rumblings about this last week too, but I dismissed the rumors at the time. I wonder if there is any there there. |
If this is true, Reid needs to go. and, the School Board, too. |
Agreed. I am seen as a quiet, go with the flow kind of person. But if this becomes a magnet I am going to lose my $hit and get noisy. Yes I am in a neighborhood that is close to Skyview and in the study. IMO, Skyview is our long-awaited much-needed western high school for our community. A magnet school does not fulfill that and would not be OK. |

They have two grades coming this fall with 800 kids in a building they currently think can handle about 1000.
So if they want future classes beyond the 9th and 10th graders starting this fall it seems they’ll have to retrofit and expand Skyview in any event, and if they are going to expand Skyview further it might as well be the neighborhood school previously agreed upon by the School Board. It’s by no means clear the state would authorize another Governor’s School in Fairfax, and the opt-in model is a very imprecise way to address overcrowding, since most kids would come from schools considered less attractive, and not necessarily those that are most crowded. If they’d decided at the outset they wanted a small magnet with only 250 kids per class, they could have done that without spending as much money, but it would seem that ship has already sailed. |
And, it would not solve any of the overcrowding in the western high schools. Not to mention that a magnet is not needed. |
| By keeping the opt in model they would decrease the populations of the surrounding schools, which has already occurred. It would also enable them to focus on things the building already has and not require them to build out all the things it doesn’t have. Plus no boundary wars, which don’t seems to have any current solutions that are popular. |
| The magnet talk is just our resident Forestville troll trying to stir up the forum again. The issue has already been hashed out and the community has spoken. There is zero possibility of it coming back at this point. Don't feed the trolls. |
Guarantee it would not relieve the overcrowding at Chantilly. Likely would relieve Westfield. Would greatly reduce membership at another school that does not need relief. |
Same!! |
That wasn't me, but I'm a Crossfield parent who would like to see Crossfield-Carson-Skyview. |
You are just so stuck in your little bubble that you have no idea. Try to go out and meet families with children younger than yours someday. Everyone I've talked to (my kids are in younger grades) is pro-Skyview. |
You sound so dumb. The point is that Fox Mill homes are far closer to South Lakes than Crossfield homes are to Oakton. Look at your map, momma. https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/boundary-maps/Foxmill_ES_1.pdf |
Because they're racist? Absolutely. That is 100% why. They're not only racist against hispanic and african-americans kids, though, they are racist against asian and Indian kids, too. |
