| Started to go to the gym but wondering if I should do the treadmill before or after weight machines. I’m focused on lean muscle gain while growing my glutes especially. Will doing cardio after weights negate my hard work as it burns muscle |
| Start with whatever is most important to you so you have the energy to go hard with great form. |
| Do about 20 minutes of cardio before weights to warm up fully and get your muscles primed to work hard. |
| After. It’s sexier for me |
|
Throughout, if you want to maximize your workout.
I start with a half mile light run to warm up. Then between weight rotations, I am hopping back on treadmill or back on track and running as hard as I can for 2-3 minutes, then back to weights. |

Whichever you want to be better at, do first.
If the cardio is most important, do that first. If you want to be stronger, lift weights first |
| Cardio does not burn muscle! Find a certified strength and conditioning coach. It will be the best move you can make at this point. |
It would if you used up all your carb storage, then all your fat storage. Which is pretty much, like, never. |
We have similar goals but I will tell you from experience. If you want to gain muscle, you shouldn't be doing a ton of cardio. While cardio will not kill your gains, it can slow down your progress if you are overdoing it. You should be focusing on eating properly and lifting heavy weights. If you are doing those properly, you really should not need a ton of cardio. Sure, do it as a warm up or if you really enjoy it but do not feel that you need to be doing endless amounts of cardio to lose fat and gain muscle. Yes cardio does burn muscle fibers. And also, glutes take a looooong time to grow. Like months. Sometimes a year. You can't grow your glutes (or muscles in general) and being trying to lose weight at the same time. They are opposing goals. You have to basically pick one at a time. I didn't see real progress in my glutes until I started eating more. Yes I've gain a little bit elsewhere too but it looks proportional. Now I am turning back to trying to shed the excess lbs. |

In your case, weights first.
You will be able to lift more/heavier before tiring yourself with cardio, and will be less likely to injure yourself by using bad form because you are tired. You can also do them on separate days or times of the day. Cardio can be done anywhere, not just the gym. Just do anything that gets your heart rate up - running, jump rope, calisthenics, biking, etc. https://www.military.com/military-fitness/running/cardio-or-weights-which-comes-first |
| Once I read that you are more likely to lose weight if you do weights first. I now think that’s probably BS and I stopped trying to lose weight, but the habit stuck. It’s nice to use machines when I’m not a sweaty mess and I tend to get fewer over-use issues when my muscles are activated before cardio. |

Warm up
Then weights Then cardio You need the energy to lift heavy and maintain form |
True. But if you run a 5k before you squat, you won't be able to squat as much. Likewise, if you squat before you run a 5k, you won't be able to run as fast. So like a PP said, whichever is more important to you |
|
Warm up on the treadmill or other machine of choice just to get heart rate up a little. 15 minutes or so.
Weights-I love body pump classes at my gym Real cardio-stairmaster, treadmill, etc. 30+ minutes. Shower and sauna. Heaven main reason is so that I am not totally sweaty for the lifting portion of my workout. |
OP here. If you don’t mind asking how much do you eat and how much weight have u been gaining to grow your glutes? I’m 5’4 and weigh around 123-125. I’ve been eating around 120g of protein, 200g of carbs, 2000-2200 calories. How much in Marcos and calories overall have u found success in? |
