No, besides being completely unfair GY puts eligibility definitions/decisions on school districts and states. This is where you get 16 year old freshman. (held back twice) |
Clubs aren't forcing misaligned kids to play up. I've seen a club NOW/ALREADY go both ways AND asking the families. One decided to play up (wanted to stay on grade) while another is going on age (to get to a higher team). Makes sense. They are finding stronger competition/exposure in both cases. |
Simple. Then stop for arguing for special treatment for a certain class of players. |

In the 2026–2027 school year, children born after August 1, 2010, will generally be entering 10th grade (Sophomore year) or 11th grade (Junior year), depending on their specific birth month and your local district's cutoff date.

Forcing players up is UNFAIR. That's the problem for YOUR solution. |
Player safety and fairness are main reasons they always go with a 12 month window and don't go by grade. In addition to DOB being officially documented. |
This is long and involved BUT correct and starting to grow on me. Thanks for your efforts. |
Thats the rub. There might be a physical advantage to playing on a grade down when players are young. But every year you dont move up it gets more and more difficult to move up. Also the older kids get the more likely they are to start calling an Aug birthday playing down "Uncle/Aunt" then whatever their name is to make fun of them. In the end its just better to start playing on the corrct grade in school team from the beginning. |
The more you look at it the more it makes sense. Print it out and use it next time a parent asks what team their kid should play on this fall. It quickly weeds out the holdback nonsense and also makes it easy if all you have is grade and a birth month. |
Completely false. Easier to go up an age group as they get older, especially after puberty. Differences in age groups lessens over time. And unnecessary to switch because college coaches said they don't care what age group you are in and ECNL Guy pointed out that you can get twice the showcases playing on age. Why do you care so much about misleading Aug births only? Targeting much. |
Also I added in the field size 11v11, etc because thats the next question everyone asks after you figure out which team they should be on. |
Not true, rosters for top teams are set at an early age everyone knows this. |
No that's just YOUR bias. Listen to the experts, like the ECNL director of a top tier club. Your head is in the sand, because you don't want to believe it! |

You also won't know if a player was forced up based on grade or earned it based on playing ability. |
