This would be sorted at tryouts with A or B team invites. |

In the 2026–2027 school year, children born after August 1, 2010, will generally be entering 10th grade (Sophomore year) or 11th grade (Junior year), depending on their specific birth month and your local district's cutoff date.

Grade guy doesn't understand math 2010s born after 8/1 are most likely to be Sophmores next fall or Juniors. Which is why below is mathematically correct. Grade guy doesn't understand math Still 100% correct. Grade guy doesn't understand math This is for next fall when SY starts. Grade guy doesn't understand math 11v11 = U18/U19 = ≤ 8/1/2007 ≈ Senior 11v11 = U17 = ≤ 8/1/2009 ≈ Senior 11v11 = U16 = ≤ 8/1/2010 ≈ Junior 11v11 = U15 = ≤ 8/1/2011 ≈ Sophomore 11v11 = U14 = ≤ 8/1/2012 ≈ Freshman 11v11 = U13 = ≤ 8/1/2013 ≈ 8th grade 9v9/11v11 = U12 = ≤ 8/1/2014 ≈ 7th grade 9v9 = U11 = ≤ 8/1/2015 ≈ 6th grade 9v9 = U10 = ≤ 8/1/2016 ≈ 5th grade 7v7 = U9 = ≤ 8/1/2017 ≈ 4th grade 7v7 = U8 = ≤ 8/1/2018 ≈ 3nd grade 4v4 = U7 = ≤ 8/1/2019 ≈ 2nd grade 4v4 = U6 = ≤ 8/1/2020 ≈ 1st 4v4 = U5 = ≤ 8/1/2021 ≈ Kindergarten Grade guy doesn't understand math Using U14 as an example what this is saying is... Grade guy doesn't understand math 1. They play 11v11 2. Players turn 14 after Aug 1 3. Players are younger than or equal to 8/1/2012 4. Players are most likely in 8th grade or Freshman |
They won't know grades then or be able to verify grades anytime soon. |
Mathematically wrong and trying to tell older players that they can play down when they cant. Cant you make up your own matrix. Why cut and paste someone else's. Then ruin the math. |
All clubs have to do is ask. Just like Arlington did this season. |
Useless unless you verify. Which is virtually impossible with all the different school districts, private and home schooling. |
Whats even more annoying is theres a HUGE image showing grade in school and year thats completely different then age guys hack job mateix. |
Clubs dont need to verify anything. The truth will eventually come out. When it does they will move Aug birthday players to their correct grade in school team. |
The real answer is what's best is going to totally depend on the kid. But if I had an August kid, at ~U8 when my kid goes to club, I would evaluate whether my kid is there with a sole priority to become their best, or to also play with friends. If they are already good enough to make the A team with their grade, I'm going there right away. If the choice is B team on grade, or A team below, I'm looking at the friend factor. At this age, the kid is still deciding whether he/she is having fun with the sport. No friends on either team, I'm having them go down to A for better development. A teams have more serious peers, get treated more seriously by the club, and will give my kid confidence. After this entry to club, I'd be looking every single year to whether my kid is ready to move from lower grade A team to on-grade A team. When he/she is ready, move up. If he/she isn't ready to move up by high school, I'd just move up to the B team to be with friends, and admit that he/she is unlikely to ever make the jump. At that point, there's probably a good chance of being moved down to B team with grade below anyway, which would be super silly. On-grade A team roster is likely hard to break into later, set early, but it's going to be easier coming from the lower grade A team than from on-grade B team, because the coaches have a stigma in their head against B team kids. At U8-U9, the difference between being youngest and oldest in the group is going to decide A/B team in 90% of cases. It's comical how much difference it makes at that very first tryout. |
Yes, instead they can get teased for being the youngest the team. GREAT! |
Other parents will be wise. They'll complain these players didn't earn their spot but HAD to be on the team because of their grade. Meanwhile, other clubs that focus on soccer talent will be beat them. |
If THIS ever happens FORCING KIDS up -- we will end up in GY. It may have been under the radar, but part of the reason going to BY was to take this off the table. Going back to SY brings it back. |
Completely untrue. But it does kill your plans for GY showcases. |
Ah yes, Arlington ... Their policy ... Q: Can a player born between August 1 and September 30 play up if they are in the higher school grade? A: School grade may be considered as part of the evaluation, but the decision to allow a player to play up is ultimately based on technical criteria including the player’s skill, maturity, and readiness for the older age group. Grade alone does not guarantee that a player will play up. |
Not for GY, but that's where it'll end up, because you'll be disadvantaging people and they'll push for more change. |
