DH left gas stove on overnight

Anonymous
He cooked dinner last night and woke up this morning and realized one of the knobs was on but no flame, so we be been breathing gas all night. I am FURIOUS. is baby (11 months) at risk for any neurological problems? We have a carbon monoxide detector and it didn’t beep but breathing in all those fumes for hours must still be very bad. I want to scream at DH for his carelessness.

Stuff happens. Give your husband a break. Treat him the way you want to be treated when you screw up majorly - because it’s not an if. Everyone does.

He just said “I’m sorry” but is acting like NBD since nothing happened and accuses me of overreacting. It must be bad for the baby to have been breathing all that in overnight?? He says I’m crazy

It’s not ideal, but nothing happened. I’d be much more concerned if there was a pattern of carelessness. One time let it go. You’re fine. The baby is fine.

If you were that worried about your baby’s health, you would be calling the ped rather than posting on DCUM. You’re not here because you’re worried about your baby, your here because you’re hoping a lynch mob will join you in tearing your husband apart.

Call your pediatrician if you are concerned about the baby. Your husband made a mistake and can’t time travel to fix it. It sucks and I understand you are upset/mad, but you are just making yourself miserable. Sometimes extending grace to others really is extending grace to yourself (not allowing this to ruin your day).

The other day, he filled the tub as the baby sat in the tub. I’ve told him not to do that before because there is a risk of scalding baby. He says it’s fine because he’s already tested the water before putting baby in- well guess what happened? When he reached to turn off the faucet, his hands weren’t supporting baby and baby fell backwards in the tub.

He’s super careful and never makes mistakes at work, and I feel like he doesn’t take the same care at home at all. He says I am too careful and over vigilant.

I already did but it’s after hours so I have to wait for the doctor to call me back

Was your baby sleeping next to the stove? Do you live in a studio? I wouldn’t be concerned about this but do call your pediatrician for reassurance. I have 4 kids and I’ve never thought to wait until the faucet is off to put my baby in the tub.

Aaaaand both times nothing happened. Back off.

BTW if the stove was really on you would have smelled the gas, it has a strong odor (on purpose, to alert people of leaks). You haven’t been breathing noxious fumes in.

Pp here. Especially for an 11-month-old baby in the tub. I do think you might be a bit too anxious. I think it hurts husbands when we are so critical of how they care for babies, they end up losing confidence and not wanting to be involved for fear of being criticized.

Your house would feel of sulfur if there was enough gas to make a difference. You would have been awakened by the stench.

Please relax a little. You will be one of these dcum moms on here complaining that their husbands don't help.

I think he’s right. He screwed up but Nothing bad happened. Im sure the baby is fine. Good lesson on being more careful. Breathe. Everyone’s ok. Your anger is not helping anything. What do you want from him?

The baby was fine, right? Have you taken the kid to the pool yet? They’ll get a little water in their nose and mouths sometimes; it’s ok. You sound so anxious! This level of anxiety has I’ll cause more harm to this kid than these little things you are upset about where there was no harm
Maybe start a thread about things we did to our kids that they survived. I actually locked my kid in the car while it was running once. I was in the back seat waiting for a friend and got out to move to the front seat and didn’t realize the car locked automatically when I shut the back door. Called 911 and everything. All ok!
