I'm not sure how to say this without sounding flip, but if they are already dying, does it matter if they catch Covid? This is absolutely one of the times where you consult with said elderly relative (if they are of sound mind). Because to them it may be worth the small risk of catching the virus to see their family one last time. Or they may prefer to hang on as long as possible, even if it means doing without visitors.

Also, I'm not sure what the head of the CDC said in front of Congress, but as of now, the CDC website still says "Watch Level 1: CDC does not recommend canceling or postponing travel to destinations with level 1 travel notices because the risk of COVID-19 is thought to be low." So, until official warnings and information are changed, it was a totally legitimate question.

Again, THREE TIMES the CDC head JUST SAID this situation is rapidly changing and it's now very obvious that travel, especially international, is bringing it back and seeding communities here with it. Expect that to change.

There is a live conference going on now. Turn it on.

The advice is specific to those over 60. They have not said to avoid traveling. If this was the case we should halt travel on subways and buses since it’s in the DC area.

Nope. He specifically said that Americans were going overseas to Europe and bringing it back here, seeding their communities.

More likely the Americans are seeding Europe.

Starting on the 12th - that is correct. Supplies will be dropped off by the national guard. Apparently that small area has more than 100 cases already.

Given the lack of cases in the Southern Hemisphere (not surprising, since it's summer there) I'd be less concerned about catching the virus in CR than spreading it from the DMV hotspot.

Yep Latin America and Africa have been almost entirely spared. Even the single deaths have all been European tourists.

Precisely. Also it’s likely more widespread in the US than there so there’s probably a very small chance of contracting it there. Nevertheless I’ve already said that I canceled the trip, so pp can calm down.

NP. Are you going to consult with every elderly resident, caregiver and family member in that hospital or nursing home or retirement community?

It's not about YOU catching the virus, selfish person. More that you can pick it up on the way home in your travels and spread it.
