Next step is to criminally charge Mr. Brabrand and FCPS SB members for their hate crimes against Asian Americans. I'll personally donate at least $10k for this cause.

This case and this statement is just so ridiculous - goes to show how entitled some of our people our

I'm south Asian and my kid did go to TJ - but we thought of it as a privilege that she happened to earn by taking two tests and getting admitted (no Prep classes). We totally realize that DC had the advantage of having two professional parents who were able to expose DC to STEM outside of school and were knowledgeable about TJ and all it had to offer.

Yea, but according to Bradbrand, just you realizing your privilege is not enough. No. Your child must be discriminated against based on the color of his skin so that she has less of a chance to attend. You support this? You support racist discrimination against your own child?

DP, my child was also admitted a few years ago without any prepping, did very well at TJ, and went on to a highly rated STEM-focused college. It is not discriminatory to focus the admissions process on metrics that do not involve tests that advantage kids who happen to have parents who understand how the admissions process works.

Well, federal judge does not agree with you. Obey the law and the Constitution like a good citizen you are.

DP. That PP is correct. Her statement, that focusing the admissions process on new metrics is not discriminatory and is not unconstitutional, is correct.

The problem is not with having new admissions criteria, although there may be some issue with some parts of the new admissions criteria. The problem was with the accompanying comments.

It's more than just comments. It's the intent, the whole driver behind the new policies. Without the racist intent, there wouldn't be these new policies.

+1 Are people really forgetting how this went down in 2020? This was always about racial balancing from day 1.

You can say that. But creating new admissions criteria is not a crazy idea. The other governor's school has recently created new admissions criteria, as have other prestigious high schools. The problem with the new criteria was the intent behind them but what they came up with wasn't terrible. With some tweaking, it should work well. The new admissions criteria do not need to be scrapped entirely, especially if a new board or board-approved group is in charge.

Brabrand is done at year’s end. New Superintendent (who will be selected by this School Board) will make it a priority to solve the admission process in a way that passes legal muster and achieves socioeconomic diversity goals and will put a gag order on the Board before they vote on it.

Yes, but if FCPS doesn't get a stay, which right now they don't have, they're going to have to move faster than that.

And the collective mental breakdown that affluent credentialist residents arguably are having could be ameliorated to sone extent. Throw in a couple hundred more UVA seats too. Parents need these car decals, really, really, really bad it seems.

The recent TJ renovation cost $100M.

Think the taxpayers are gonna soak that bill?

Depends... it seems the projections in the latest CIP are that enrollment will be much lower, hence less total demand for additional facilities. Some of that facilities expansion money could be repurposed from what would have been neighborhood-based expansions into projects like a second TJ (or other specialty choice school). Not saying they should... another option might be to accelerate progress on the renovations backlog, especially for schools where long0term capacity demands are currently being inadequately met by temporary/modular facilities.

They'll appeal for a stay to the 4th Circuit as well. This was a procedural move and no one realistically expected that Hilton would essentially reverse himself.

It would be genuinely shocking if the stay were not granted by the 4th Circuit.

That wouldn’t be essentially reversing himself lmao, it would be an acknowledgment of the uncertainty and potential harm of the school district being forced to jerk around families. This kind of stay is granted all the time.

Given the language that he used in the opinion, it absolutely would be reversing himself. He couldn't grant the stay without seriously doing damage to his core arguments in the opinion.

If you find a school process is racist then you wouldn't grant a stay to allow the racist process to remain in place. Racism is more harm to kids than reverting to an old admission system.

Except that the old admission system was even more racist.

You post like the School Board wants to find a problem-solver. There’s no reason to believe that. The School Board is simply an auxiliary of the Fairfax Democrats, and they only sit on the Board to protect and in their minds expand a political coalition. They do not care about schools or education policy. They care about sound bites and reassuring their political patrons that they stand “on the right side of history.” If some kids or their educations are collateral damage, that’s a small price to pay in their eyes.

What is the point of engaging with someone who seriously believes this? SMH

There isn’t one. Don’t. Ignore and carry on.

Good for the group of parents who sued the school. My daughter really wanted to attend TJ in 2020 but b/c of the admission changes and last plans from the SB she just decided TJ would be too controversial for her. It’s a shame for all these kids going thru this. This on top of the big mess they created with COVID and shutting out kids and it’s all just too much.

Except it’s the truth. Just look at the private and public statements of someone like the utterly contemptible Stella Pekarsky.

Her private statements made clear she understood the changes in the TJ admissions policy were anti-Asian, and it almost bothered her, but it was far more important to her not to rock the boat and instead just go along with what her colleagues wanted.

Her public statements make clear she’s not interested in addressing the court rulings promptly in a way that would provide clarity to current and future TJ applicants, but instead only sticking to the party line that what the School Board did was justified in the name of equity, even when a federal court has ruled she and her colleagues violated the Constitution.

It’s not about the kids for these people. It is always about the politics. Even when their politics blow up in their faces and get their political adversaries elected. They are their own worst enemies.

Only in your progressive opinion which is based on emotions and probably social media complaining. The old admission process was legal, the new progressive approach was racist and unconstitutional.

+1

I don’t agree with how it went down but the new process itself is a step in the right direction.

There are more Asians at TJ today than just a few years ago. AND more low-income.

Win-win.

So, when they decide on a straight up lottery for this year….everyone on this board will be really mad, right?

Let’s go lottery.

Either lottery or existing test results/GPA. Too late for other options.

Yea, they can do that. If that happens, good luck on the next election.
