What colleges do you have negative associations with and why?

these schools are so much more diverse than our day.

I like that yale has the secret snob stuff. As a kid, that totally appealed and still kind of does. (I'm from the midwest, wouldnt have occurred to me to even apply)

Brown. Used to think of it as a place for trust fund kids. Now think of it as the ultimate UMC striver school.

I realize these aren’t necessarily fair estimations, just being honest

Just so I have this straight, you liked Brown BETTER when you thought it was full of “old money” kids than now when, according to you, it’s full of kids who are there to improve their SES? Right. Gotcha.

Sorry, anyone who uses acronyms like SES is just silly.

And no, both reasons are legit for why someone might find the school distasteful. People are entitled to their opinions, so relax. But you really think an UMC kid needs to improve their ‘SES’??

I’m the Yale PP and I think that’s what drew me in. Maybe it’s a midwestern isolation thing. I was always reading New Yorkers and getting the New York Times from the library to try to figure out how that part of society worked. I don’t think I would be drawn to it today because the world is much more transparent, homogenous and accessible.

Perhaps the world appears this way to you because you DID go to Yale. I’m from the Midwest as well and I know very few people who feel this way.

Yale kids seem a lot happier than Princeton or Harvard.

Princeton, Duke, Dartmouth. I know a lot of a-holes who went to these schools. Like seems to call to like.

University of Chicago--everyone I know who went there was a humorless prig.

Williams- DD was touring and got called a racial slur during the tour. We were so shocked, and the school had to get the Dean involved, but it immediately sent a nope down my spine. We also were accused of theft by the hotel we stayed in, and decided it was not the school for her.

Talking to black students at the college afterwards, this was “not uncommon.”

This is abysmal. Western Massachusetts is not the most inclusive place, but it’s a shame this ever happened to your family!

I’m really sorry. My DC’s school has a Black@_____ instagram page and it was inspired by the black@williams page. Not the best environment to say the least.

Figures as much:

High Point University admissions has an acceptance rate of 77% and an early acceptance rate of 84.8%. Half the applicants admitted to High Point University who submitted test scores have an SAT score between 1110 and 1300 or an ACT score of 23 and 31.

Do your data points counteract the fact that HPU and MAGA are closely aligned? Trump has held multiple rallies at HPU over the years. HPU’s law school dean even advised Trump on his efforts to overturn the 2020 election (claiming Pence shouldn’t certify the results).

I wanted to have nothing to do with anyone who went there.

Agree regarding Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Although I realize that this feeling may be unfair, every graduate of this school whom I know (only about a dozen) is creepy. I have engaged in discussions with them and they cannot deal with differing opinions. All resorted to name-calling rather than address the issue. These are folks who graduated decades ago and are well off financially, but very immature intellectually even though intelligent individuals.

Not me. And I went to Wesleyan. I am very open minded. Like to see both sides. I not creepy. Neither is Lin Manuel Miranda, Beanie Feldstein, Hickenlooper from CA etc etc.

I find this hard to believe.

Princeton - smart, arrogant, country-club types
Yale - smart, snobby and rich
Harvard - smart, obnoxious kids who think they’re the best thing that has ever happened to this world

And agree with UPenn - it has fallen in my eyes because of Trump

Dubya went to Yale, so I don't have a lot of respect there, either
