Why are goldendoodles so popular?

Doodles are all you ever see anymore. As a dog lover it is sad to me that so many dog owners opt for these when there are so many great dogs out there. If you mind dog hair don’t have a dog or learn to vacuum. Not a big deal.

Or...get a dog that doesn’t shed.

Such weird animosity towards Goldendoodles and their owners. We love ours and think she’s cute. I don’t spend one minute thinking ugly thoughts about other people’s dogs/breeds. I find it so odd that you people make negative generalizations about other people’s dogs. My doodle is 50/50 - she looks like a small golden retriever with more wavy hair, is sweet, loyal, and obedient, and is just the right fit for our family. And she sheds so that should make you doodle haters feel even more gleeful with your scorn.

^if there weren’t sooooo many of them we would care. There are other ugly breeds out there but you do see them every single day. Or anytime some gets a dog...guess what...they get a doodle. There are other options out there. I don’t believe that many people have allergies.

My extended family has two. Both from the same mom and dad. One is smaller and more mild mannered (female). One is huge and wild. Nice, but just acts crazy (boy).

They can shed. And Hybrid rigor is a myth. Or marketing.

New? No. Mine are 12 and 14. They did symbolize status, though. For sure.

Another poodle owner here and I agree. I have a miniature poodle that I cut like a doodle. Everyone thinks my dog is a doodle. Nope purebred poodle and smart as a whip. Love my guy

No/minimal shedding.
Relatively easy to train.
No loud barking.
Doesn’t seem to be prone to major health issues.
On the smaller side (no massive poops, okay with a small yard)
Good with kids
Unnecessary to do a ton of grooming

I would really prefer a cuter breed but I think we are stuck with this one.

What about a Brittany?

They shed, whine, and pee when they get excited.

Haha! So do the 2 cockapoos that I know.

I prefer my non-GMO mutt.

How is this ugly?

That one is cute. It’s not a standard.

Looks like my yorkie

That’s a puppy. Puppies are always cute.

Breeder here: there are many downsides to these two as a mix. Once in awhile you get the great dog you are aiming for. The rest ...not so good. I don’t breed golden doodles myself for that reason. Profitable though.

Like another PP I don’t personally like the feel of their fur/hair and in general non-shedding dogs tend to smell more. And really goldens and poodles are better looking dogs. Plus there are reputable breeders of goldens and poodles.

I wish people would just say they wanted a non-shedding dog instead of making up excuses.

What bothers me is the number of ‘oodles’ of all sorts that end up in rescue. People want the personality of the Golden and the lack of shedding from the poodle but this often does not happen. I wish breeders were much more honest about the type of dog your puppy could become so that people could really understand that their ‘oodle’ may or may not shed so they should not get an ‘oodle’ if they require a non-shedding breed. And the puppy may or may not have the golden personality so they should not get an ‘oodle’ if they really need that personality type. i am so tired of hearing about people who give thousands of dollars to a breeder who has assured them their new puppy will be low to no shed and when discovering the dog sheds then gives the dog away or gives to rescue. I blame the breeders for propagating misinformation. As a buyer please try and support reputable breeders who are honest. I do not dislike ‘oodles’ - I dislike breeders who lie for profit and owners who buy dogs without really doing research so then give them up.

Where do you live? We have been looking for a doodle for over a year, but prefer to rescue, and I never see them in DC-area rescues! Actually, I did see one last summer and we put in an application for him, but the lady said they got 50 applications for him!
