Univ of Chicago ED Acceptance Rate

ED acceptance rate is 5%. This has been said at several admitted students' events this year by the admissions team.

Not if you're applying from a DC private!

All ED?

The ED acceptance rate is definitely not 5%

So “at least” 8 students are in ED at Sidwell??

I really thought the Big3 kids would spread out their ED2 applications more this year. Chicago is shakier in the rankings and people can't easily claim it as a top 10 school based on even a single ranking source. Both Hopkins and Northwestern have ED2 and are ranked higher than Chicago in USNWR and elsewhere.

Have the kids who have applied ED2 there over the last couple of years had regrets or been generally happy with their decision?

Are these “second tier” students? Earlier in this thread it said top tier are not the ones that attend?

Their Instagram page shows 1 student attending. But you are saying there are “at least” 7 more?

most kids don't submit to the (student run) instagram page at all. some submit later.

you can look at last year's and see how many kids submitted vs how many in the class

So you are confirming at least 8 have been admitted ED at Sidwell and are headed to Chicago this fall?

Yes. I am a new poster, but can confirm at least 7 from Sidwell (total of ED and ED2) to Chicago this year

The ED acceptance rate is NOT 5%. Whoever said that is a bald face liar. Full stop.

You won't ever know the rates because Chicago intentionally keeps it a secret.

Q: What is the ED1 acceptance rate?
Justin: We do not publish admissions data on individual rounds. With four different rounds (EA, ED1, ED2, RD), the data can vary pretty widely from year to year so it just wouldn’t be useful. Some years it may be that high, some years it will be much lower, it really depends.

Q: Do you publish data on the percent of EA students who defer to ED2 who then get admitted?

We don't publish admissions data on individual rounds...but we have recently seen ED2 increase in popularity among first-time applicants and deferred students, and we generally balance our admitted students to reflect the pool overall in many ways.

5% of early students were admitted per the Dean of Admissions at an admitted student event. No lies told here. There was also a Reddit link prvided on this thread that also restates this info and a lot more statistics. Check it out.

Now who knows more about these 8+ Sidwell students that committed ED to UChicago? Chicago must clearly be a popular school with them.

I was on at an in-person gathering for ED1 admits. This was discussed by many parents for a while. It was 5%.

Only one person applied from my child's high school. So that means 100% admission rate

Can we stop this now?
