Ok, I'm thinking maybe you are a marketer. I see what you're doing -- first, you question the people asking, then say thus is asked and answered (nevermind that the stat provided does not answer the question), then demonize all statistics, then demonize anyone questioning the non-answer. Seems very well crafted. |
Nobody wants to just bash a school for no reason. There must be something that you think the ED1 rate is a proxy for. Such that you don’t think ED1/EA together give you any information.
Maybe we can talk about that instead? Are you worried that the school is actually of low quality and that your kid will apply there and not be among his/her intellectual peers? Because i have a kid there and i think i can address that. Kids are really high quality and i am sure your kid will be intellectually challenged and grow. Is it that you don’t want to waste your ED1 on UChicago until you know what the probability of getting in is? UChicago is notorious for wanting you if you want them. Lots of kids get in ED1 and ED2. My suggestion is that if your kid likes the school, s/he consider applying ED to improve his/her chances. Is it that you think there is something shady about the admission process because they don’t release their numbers? If so, I suggest you move along and ask your child not to apply. They aren’t going to change their behavior because you call them out on an anonymous website. And you shouldn’t send your precious child and hard earned dollars to a school you don’t trust. But could please stop with with gratuitous bashing of the school because they don’t give you the info you think you are entitled to as a general member of the public? |
I didn’t get the impression PP was demonizing statistics. I think there is general frustration that others will never be stratified with a given answer. I mean, this thread has gone from stats, to special opportunities/tours/dinners the school has supposedly provided to a special subset of private school kids, a reference to the Hunger Games?, to strong arm waitlist tactics. The postings are all over the place. Any numbers provided have gotten lost in this word soup and it’s difficult to make heads or tails of anything…what’s real, what’s not… |
+1. Except it is not well-crafted, just transparently silly. But at least we are getting, in that sense, at least some transparency from a UChicago discussion. |
This thread is about their ED acceptance rate. If you don't want to talk about that, you're the one who should move on. |
Found it - it’s called “Exploring Frontiers,” and right now it’s in Texas and California. Here is a Reddit post related to it:
UChicago PreCollege Program Hey guys, I'm not completely sure this applies to this sub but I wasn't sure what sub was more accurate to post on. I was recently nominated with a few other kids to attend a pre-college program at UChicago called "Exploring Frontiers." Since I got nominated I believe the program is free (3k before). I was wondering if anyone else has attended this program before/has heard of it since attending this program would lead me to cancel other summer program plans. Thanks in advance! |
PP here - when my child did it the program was not open to anyone outside of those nominated. Child told me it was top students of well-known feeder type privates. The website was not linked to the rest of the UChicago website.
The issue is that all of this incentivizes all the other selective colleges to go down this same black box path. And attending a feeder private does offer a boost at the detriment of the clueless kid who applies EA or RD, either for financial aid or other reasons, and is really just there to get rejected. |
I care because it is a patently unfair system. I guess those of us who shelled out all that money and whose kids ground away at homework all those hours get to tell ourselves our kids are inherently better than those who didn’t. Remember I was one of those parents.
But our kids aren’t inherently better. That’s my problem. |
This is the link for pre-college Summer Program from the source . It does not sound like it targets private school students. It’s comprised of several different programs—ones that targets rural areas, international students, Texas and CA. Nomination by a counselor seems to be one route to be considered by sounds like there is also an application process as well. Does not mention paying for transportation costs. FYI there are other colleges if interested that offer something similar to this pre-college program.

My kid attended. I assure what I am saying is accurate. It’s open to others but the top kids at top privates get to go for free. It was an application process. My kid was nominated by her school, applied and was accepted |
This isn’t going anywhere, so I am disengaging. Life is too busy |
As an IVY+ college, UChicago doesn't have to release data just because a few detractors are call for it. |
Here we go again…like a dog with a bone. |
So far at least 8 kids from Sidwell are in |
how about STA/NCS? |
