Truthfully, how often do your kids eat fast food?

How often (if ever) do you allow your kids to eat fast food?

Honestly, once a month for us. My oldest never had fast food till he was 4 or 5. He’s 7 now. My youngest (1.5) had her first McDonald’s French fry around her first birthday.

We eat most meals at home and I’d say they’re fairly balanced but my oldest is so picky and chronically underweight. Sometimes I’m exhausted and want all three kids to eat their entire meal and go to bed and that solution is always McDonalds.

Sometimes I have feel guilt. I know we have friends who would consider a child even looking at a fast food restaurant child abuse.

Almost never. Sometimes they'll have a burger at a restaurant, or we'll be traveling and stop for Cava, Sweetgreen or a sandwich. But I can only thing of one instance in their lives, when traveling in a rural area, where they had McDonalds/Wendys/Burger King.

Rarely. He hates McDonalds, so it's not worth any time savings.

A couple times a week.

What are you considering fast food?

If it is McDonald’s or Burger King, once per month. If you are including chipotle, shake shack, Panera bread, once per week.

We are the family of immigrants. We do not eat fast food, food high in sugar at home and do not drink ANY sugary drinks. Water, milk and tea only. Sometimes my kids will get a hamburger at a restaurant, but not often. All of us are very healthy weight.

We get them Happy Meals every 2-3 weeks.

My youngest has Chick fil A once a week. My older DD hates fast food and avoids.

It doesn't matter what anyone else says. This works for your family. You are feeding your family. Do not feel guilt.

Are Cava and Chipotle fast food? If so, weekly. If you mean McD, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, etc, never.

Maybe once a month or two? Not sure, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it every now and then. Same with Doritos or what have you—it is nice to at least know what these things taste like. Otherwise I would think these people are overly sheltered.

A relative is snowplowish like that and I think they are too extreme.

Same. I'd probably do Chick-Fil-A a couple times per month if there were one close to us, because both kids like CFA, but neither likes Wendy's, BK, McD's. We get pizza for dinner a couple Fridays per month.
