I have never been to one but my daughter has been invited to one for one of her dearest friend.
The dress should not be childish not “too” grown up. Shoulders must be covered, but she could wear a cardigan over it if needed (during the religious ceremony). I have no idea of what to buy or where since for the past 3 years or so she has been mostly in jeans, pants, shorts and skirts with t-shirts. I need something classy, tasteful but youthful. TIA! |
| Did they tell you shoulders must be covered? My DD goes to many bat mitzvahs and girls wear short cute dresses and converse or other sneakers. |

Neither of these are even close to what tens wear!
Are you talking about to the synagogue or to the party- or is the party immediately following? For just synagogue, whatever your child might wear to church is fine as long as the shoulders are covered. However, kids have a lot more fun with the dresses for parties- anything goes. For combined, kids often wear a party dress with a cardigan on top. |
| Who is posting these horrible suggestions? The kid is 14 not 40! |
| My daughter wore black plants, white tee shirt and denim jacket in the am, cute dress in the pm. |
Converse both times. |
Yes, but only for the religious ceremony- not the reception afterwards. |

It's going to depend somewhat on the party and the friend group.
The suggestion of something that you might wear to church is a good one. My kid went to three last year. I think there were a lot of skirts. Nobody was dressed very fancy. Think of an outfit a teen might wear when receiving an award or dressing up for grandparents anniversary party. The best thing to do is have your daughter ask her friend what she should wear. |
Omg. Stop with the Talbots suggestions for young teens |
Something like this. It is a religious ceremony so be covered up. Not too frilly a dress. If needed cover with a cardigan for the ceremony.
