Why are so many people getting waitlisted ?
I thought kids won’t going to school anymore what ever happen to that? You seen reports on the news that kids are not going to college anymore. GPA 3.5 waitlisted |
| I’m not sure where you heard kids won’t be going to college, seems like application numbers are up this year, especially at more prestigious schools. VT tends to put a lot of applicants on the waitlist. Not sure how much movement there will be on the waitlist. |
| I don't mean to be rude at all, but you can't be surprised by 3.5 being waitlisted at VT. |
Record number of applications (52,000, I think). People are definitely still going to college. Our now college junior kid who was waitlisted and withdrew the application. I think ultimately our kid would have been rejected. It all worked out for the best. Our kid is happy elsewhere, majoring in something VA Tech didn't offer. It will work out for your kid as well. |
| I’ve told my 4.0 UW /1400 SAT junior not to fall in love with any one school. College admissions are getting crazier every year and the colleges he wants to attend even though he might be in the averages aren’t safeties anymore. |
TikTok you don’t believe the amount of kids getting F.. |
Assuming he's taking AP/IB classes he can take the SAT a couple more times to get that number up to 1450 and he'll pretty much be able to take his pick short of the upper elite. |

Fcps 4.1 and 1380 sat here. Waitlisted for tech.
Things that didn’t help: One of the top fcps schools Not urm Not first Gen Male applying to business school Otherwise everting else fit. Varsity sports captain, 8 APs and everything else honors. |
| Kids submit 20 applications, so the schools have no idea how many of the accepted students will actually enroll and no idea of how many others will be willing to wait until July to finalize their decision, resulting in massive wait lists. Sucks for the kids who really want to get into a particular school, kind of a big tease, they aren't in so should they wait by the phone hoping for a call? |
+1 most in-demand schools are putting more on the waitlist since yield is getting harder to predict. Over-enrolling the class is a huge problem for colleges so they would rather undershoot and pull who they want from the waitlist than risk too large a class. |
Yup. DD has pretty much the same profile (tho obviously a girl and she is at one the top FCPS schools). We were surprised that she got waitlisted. |
+1 3.9 Waitlisted DD here and not surprised. I wish it had gone the other way, but apps are way up. |
+1 I had to do a double take. Seriously, OP? |
These are not the reasons your kid didn't get in. Plenty of white, UMC students from top FCPS high schools are accepted to all majors, including business and engineering. Your kid was simply in competition with all of them.

Knowing that the waitlist for VT is that expansive makes me feel a little bad that my above 4.2/1520 kid got waitlisted. I thought the waitlist was a little tighter for VT |
