Everyone automatically assumes that the shop girl is lying because Oprah is black. I've watched her "making the show" on OWN and I noticed that Oprah has a tendency to be a huge diva and stretch things and this is with great editing.

And don't get me started on what the EU countries think about one another, it's terrible. sure, an interracial couple won't get too many stares and it is more accepted in Western Europe than in the US. However, it is very ironic that when doing business they are incredibly backwards in how they think.

Didn't this happen to Oprah and Gail at Hermes in Paris a few years ago? I am incredibly surprised that there are people who don't recognize Oprah! Even other customers didnt recognize her?

Oprah is lying. The Hermes incident was ridiculous - she was asked to leave AFTER THE STORE HAD CLOSED, because they had a private event scheduled. They apologized because they needed to for PR sake.

Now she has trumped this up. The clerk did not speak English as a first language, and was suggesting another bag just like that one, perhaps because the one Oprah wanted to see was not as nice as the cheaper one. Based on the picture of the hideous bag, at least, that would be my guess.

Being judged by your appearance happens to everyone, although people of color get the worst of it by far. in fact, I just told my husband this weekend that I wanted him to deal with a salesman because I often get treated like I am dumb or silly because I have long, pale, blond hair. People stereotype all the time and certainly, stereotyping based on skin color is nothing new. There is absolutely no reason for someone of Oprah's stature to lie about something like this, something that happens all the time!!
