Maybe it was her bodyguard who stood outside the store? Try to think, pp.

I assume you've all seen the 'apology where Oprah says "she didn't know who I was, or that I have a black card ... we should all just be able to go shop wherever." Just had to throw that in there about your card, right Oprah? Oh, and - LIKE SHE DIDNT KNOW IT'D BE ALL OVER THE PLACE? She's so high and mighty - can't stand her.

So much more effective, no? This way everyone somehow connected got punished publicly.

I think Oprah meant she was PLAYING the "black card." Which of course she was.

And then she just lets a little ol' shop girl get away with what she perceived as a racist slight. She knows her celebrity status and money would have immediately put that clerk in her place if she had in fact acted in a racist manner. So why didn't she say something to her directly or better yet, ask for the manager, right there and then?

My guess is that she didn't even see it as a race issue and probably didn't think anything of it. That is until she was being interviewed and asked about subtle racism. Then she remembered a saleswoman offering another bag that was less expensive and jumped at that - making it a race issue instead of what it was - that the saleswoman was suggesting another bag, that she never said "you can't afford this" or whatever the lie was that Oprah said and that the shopgirl probably looked at Oprah's frumpy, unkempt and sloppy look with no make-up, dressed in ugly sweats and thought if you're dressed like that, you're not going to buy that bag. Something she would have said to anyone dressed that way regardless of their race.

Yeah - blown out of proportion by Oprah herself!

She was barely 5 mins in the store.
If I was to buy a purse like that I would not want it to have been handled by 5000 random street people

If this were a high-end store, they'd have more than one model of the $32K bag. No way would I buy the "floor model" but I'd expect to able to handle it. Please.

^ agree with that, but additionally, if I'm Oprah I simply would have said no I'd like to see "that bag" (referring to the very expensive one). My guess is the girl would have shrugged and gone ahead and gotten it. But instead Oprah just walked out then told everyone about it on TV.

Oprah is lying. This allegation of having experienced racism would give her credibility during interviews when she is doing the publicity tour for her current film. Very sad that a billionaire feels the need to exaggerate this instance when she was shopping for $20k-$40k handbags to claim racism.

Poor, poor Oprah. She had to travel to an obscure country which is about the size of a postage to shop for handbags worth tens of thousands of dollars in order find someone who was not nice enough to her.

We should all have poor, poor Oprah's problems.

You white women and your white privilege are hilarious.

How was shop girl supposed to know she was Oprah? Never seen her on daytime tv over there. Not many people know her in Europe.

Thought they know her all over the world. Maybe she is not as recognizable when she isn't all glamed (sp?) up like on TV.
