It happens ALL the time especially in upscale stores where some staff automatically assumes you rode the bus to get there.

Hello Dorothy, how are things in Kansas? No wicked witch sightings lately I hope?

Forget the handbag - what the hell is the shop owner wearing? Please don't tell me this is "fashion."

She was just looking. Are you telling me you've never picked up something to just look fully knowing you couldn't afford it? But in Oprah's case, she can as she made $70 million last year.

Yeah, but there are obviously other people buying those bags, or they wouldn't be making them.

The shop owner is actually nipping out through a leather jacket. That is disgusting.

Please, this debate really is ridiculous. The sales clerk is lying, typical CYA. Anyone who even considers that Oprah would lie about such a small and, in her life, meaningless shopping trip, is delusional. Wake up folks! People discriminate against others based on their looks and skin color all of the time.

Being judged by your appearance happens to everyone, although people of color get the worst of it by far. in fact, I just told my husband this weekend that I wanted him to deal with a salesman because I often get treated like I am dumb or silly because I have long, pale, blond hair. People stereotype all the time and certainly, stereotyping based on skin color is nothing new. There is absolutely no reason for someone of Oprah's stature to lie about something like this, something that happens all the time!!

I kid you not!!!! The purse that is under my desk right now looks EXACTLY like the $38K purse. I got it at Kohl's for $29 on sale and another 10% off for using my Kohl's credit card.

Who knew? I've been in big league style all along when I was just looking for was a big bag to hold all my junk!!

+1 If you've ever spent any time in Europe you know that it is not the land of hipster progressiveness that everyone assumes. Some of the most racist people I've ever met are European.

Not as disgusting as her UV-ravaged handbag of a face. Please, people: sunblock!

I could live with the jacket but what's up with everything else? I guess when you own a million dollar boutique, you can dress any way you want and it's considered high fashion. I dress like that, and I'm accused of dressing in the dark.

But, but, I thought Europe was a glorious land of milk, honey and electric cars, where everyone was tolerant and welcoming and the society we MUST strive to be.

Hey what is Oprah complaining about?
At least the shopgirl spoke to her.
I cannot tell you how many times I have wondered around a store and couldn't even get a "Hey Bitch"!

She, the shop girl, admits to saying "it is similar to the one I am holding, but a lot more expensive". If I heard that, I would assume the person is saying "look, you can see the one I am holding, you can afford this one. the one you want to see, is out of your price range, so why bother looking at it".
