she perceived it as a slight - but it's an unfair fight - a media mogul v. a shop girl. Obviously Oprah's ego is a big as her thighs. |
Exactly she seemed cool to me ... but then again Im not a racist. |
See. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Oprah showed about as much class as this poster. |
Yes, because what one person says equals what "all" black people would have done. If Oprah was as classless as you claimed, she would've made a scene in the store. Again, please shut the hell up. |
Ya this was my impression too. I honestly think the shop attendant was discouraging her from the obscenely expensive hideous bag in favor of a better looking one at a better price. |
Of course you would wait to make a stink about it -- it makes for better ratings! Signed, Person of Color |
Okay, Oprah is a big shot, powerful, uber wealthy woman who doesn't take shit from anyone. And then she just lets a little ol' shop girl get away with what she perceived as a racist slight. She knows her celebrity status and money would have immediately put that clerk in her place if she had in fact acted in a racist manner. So why didn't she say something to her directly or better yet, ask for the manager, right there and then? |
Very dumb comment. Like extremely dumb. "Person of color"? |
The bag diminishes in value each time a customer handles it. Also, the store will not let you hold two at once, even to compare them, unless you are very serious. Certainly not after a breeze into the store. Not too many high end shoppers on this thread. +100 for publicity stunt. |
Because she didn't want to make a fuss about it. If you aren't black, you don't understand how sometimes you just let subtle racism go. You become almost used to it and only overt or hostile treatment will illicit an immediate response. |
WTF? |
A very reasonable explanation for what happened. I suspect Oprah was offended the clerk didn't know who she was since she was in her "full Oprah gear" to quote Ms. Winfrey. Image a clerk suggesting another item might be just as nice but cost less? I would regard that as good customer service whilst Ms. Winfrey regards it as racism. |
Imagine |
yes, but he does not walk into stores and make a scene |
I wouldn't. Do your damn job. It's not your call to decide what is financially reasonable for a customer who enters your shop. I'd be highly pissed if I went to buy something specific and someone basically shooed me away. |
