2) you should expect the person your underpaying to eat your food. Obviously, the nanny will not be able to afford to eat.
3) you want a professional nanny; then pay for one. You are paying a babysitter to make sure your you kid stays alive and you don't go to jail for leaving your kid alone.
4)professional nannies get $30-35 an hour in rural areas; and $35-$100 per hour in the big cities. As well, as an apartment or at least a room. Plus health benefits and vacation.
luxury nannies get $200,000 a year++++. We have our specialties.
That is why you can't find a nanny. Hard truth.
I think you wanted someone to vent to-side with you- and say, "you poor thing."
BE Respectful to the person your under paying AND be kind.
Your not paying them enough to even come to work. Car insurance and upkeep. It's cheaper for them to stay home. GET IT?!
I hope this helps you for the future. Take Care.

1. The average rent for ONE person is not $2000 anywhere, not even they Bay Area or NYC.
2. $20/hr is not underpaying and OP has said nothing indicating she is the problem here, you nannies just can't stand when employers want to have any oversight.
3. Professionals have proper grammar, you do not. Sit down.

$20 an hour with taxes taken out is not great pay.

The nannies sleeping is odd because almost all of her nannies slept. Drugs? Another job? Youth? I don't know.

Eating the food? So what? She's in your hone caring for your child because you don't want to and you're worried about someone eating your groceries? That says something.

"Because you don't want to"

NP, and just wanted to say that I feel for you, OP! We fired a nanny in November for a number of infractions, including sleeping almost every day (even on her first day). There were several instances where DD would be awake and crying and the nanny was still sleeping. FWIW, it was a full-time position, with paid PTO, sick leave, etc. and was $24/hour (with guaranteed OT every week). Fortunately, we found a much more responsible nanny, but the sleepy nanny was from Care.com also, and I think if zig had to look again, I’d just go through an agency.
