You are nuts and apparently do not read. Italy has the oldest population in Europe and has the highest level of generational mixing in Europe as well (grandchildren, parents, grandparents living together and socializing). It spread like wildfire because with intact multi-generational families living in close proximity and a really old population, you will have more spreading of any disease. It is not because people dared to go into a Starbucks. China, a dictatorship, forcibly removed children from their parents, etc. in order to break up the family transmission rate. The US is younger, spread out more, and full of dysfunctional families/incels who practice social distancing as a rule are not wantonly disregarding public safety if they have a playdate. Get a grip. |
NP. It is really bad when even FOX News get it and you don't! |
Your grammar is horrid. Yikes. |
Is anyone’s Au pair staying? My au pair said most of her friends are going home. And she is going back and forth. |
Our AP is staying. Would need to be quarantined if she goes home and everything is closed there, too. |
It's fine if you have a different risk calculation for you and your family. But I don't think it is reasonable for anyone to be expected to have unwelcome exposure because their AP has a different risk tolerance. This is the sort of thing that either HFs and APs need to agree on or part ways. I would not continue to host someone who didn't willingly agree to social distancing at this time. |
Ours is staying and so are all of her friends. I think she is happy to stay and earn some money since there will be no jobs anyway. |
Our BP is leaving, two months early. We discussed it last night. He will likely go on Monday. We completely support him. It’s hell being stuck in our house right now. Both kids are nightmares for different reasons, DH is extraordinarily stressed about the market, and I’m stressed out about work and my kids. I would flee too, and I told him that. |
Ours is staying too. Anyone with ideas of nice things we can do for our au pairs who are sticking it out? They can't really go out and spend money now and who knows when they will be able to travel. Anyone with a pulse on things that would help a teenager get through this isolating period? |
haha this is GOLD. Apparently you are immune from COVID19? Or you have a secret vaccine? You know people in their 20s/30s/40s also get sick, right? Gyms are breeding grounds for germs, including COVID19, which lives in surfaces for up to 3 days. Tell your au pair to download one of the million free in-home workouts like the rest of us. A 4-year-old could do a better risk/benefit analysis than you've done here. It’s not only the elderly and people with underlying health complaints that are being badly affected by COVID-19. Dr Ignace Demeyer, who works at an Accident and Emergency department in an Aalst hospital (East Flanders) warns that people with no history of illness are getting very ill. “We’re not only talking about the older generations. We’re talking about people aged between 30 and 50, who come in here. Frankly speaking lung scans of these patients are scary”. |
For those of you whose APs are leaving, are they finding it difficult to find flights? Our Ap’s flight home for next month was just cancelled. |
Our German au pair tells me one of her friends from
training school has already gone home, and several of the other local German au pairs are discussing stay/go. (We are in the Midwest but in a pretty significant social distancing situation with pretty much no social anything). I think she wants to go home. They’re afraid of not being able to get out of the US. Also - what about their health care if they get sick? They have no real insurance! |
We have a German AP and she just did something that upped her health coverage. |
I don't have an AP right now, but with the new Level IV travel warning that Americans should not travel anywhere internationally, what happens when their visas run out, if they are staying? Seems like they would be extended, or they would all become illegal. |
I have not heard of any home countries not allowing citizens or permanent residents back in. |
