Not yet, but I will be ok if I don't get anything because I think they are the type of people who don't know how it works.

They are awesome

It usually is the rich people who are the cheapest.

Like the saying goes, that is how the rich stay rich.

Sorry to the PP who didn't get anything by samples, but I have a question for you. Is the two week's pay that she gave you going toward the two weeks that they will be gone and you are caring for the dog? Or the two weeks when they return and you will be doing childcare?

Because if it is for caring for the dog, and is the same amount you make for caring for the kids, it is kinda a gift since your workload is reduced significantly since a dog is less work than two kids.

Or am I missing something?

OP, it is cruel to have you deliver monetary bonuses to the teachers and all the other people in their children's lives, yet leave you empty handed at the end of the day.

A). They have a gift for you and it is being shipped to your home. Hopefully it will arrive by Christmas.

B). She is sending you a subliminal message that she doesn't see you in the same regard as she sees these other people and either you shape up or she will ship you out.

C). There is no oversight here. If she thought of these other people, most certainly she would have thought of the nanny as well.

We are not giving cash bonus but over the course of the year have given a total of 7 weeks paid vacations.

Wow, this is great. You definitely don't need to give a bonus with a benefit like this.

Not really. I used to work for a family who went on several vacations a year. Because we agreed on guaranteed pay, I was paid while they didn't need me but I don't consider that extra money.

No, you are not missing anything. they paid me my regular salary thru the next 2 weeks . Not just because I have the dog but also because we have a contract that says my hours are guaranteed have they used it or not. She is the type of boss that, had she not left me the dog, she would've found itty bitty things for me to come in and work the hours so she can get her moneys worth.

Yes I got my pay but that was expected. I am grateful that I'm in relaxed mode but I see so much $$$$$$$ floating around, I cant understand why people that can, isn't generous. I have been farther than beyond with this family, if I start to tell you what I have put up with this whole entire year you won't believe me! I'm not saying I want a tremendous bonus (that would've been nice) but how about something thoughtful? a photo framed of the girls? a gift card to a place she knows I like? $100 extra on my check "for coffee" or something????

You are right tho pp. Ever since I started working as a nanny I have only worked with very wealthy people. This family is by far the richest like, by a mile but also the cheapest one in regards to being generous to "the help".

And by cheap I mean to the extreme. For instance one time she complained that why were the peppers so expensive on the receipt (and this is after shopping for her every week at the same place with the same price peppers) "Well because we buy the organic peppers" / "Are you sure they were $5.99/lb?".......yes, I say, adding the she asked for 3 organic peppers and that amounted for about 1 1/2 lbs therefore close to $10. She blurts like I had done something wrong: "I have never paid this much for peppers in my whole entire life. I want you to make sure that it said $5.99 uptop and also check all other items when they go thru the cashier to see if it is ringing the right price" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (now she only asks me to buy 2 peppers!!!!!)

Another time, when it would've made more sense to take one of the girls out to eat after school because we had errands to do closer to the school and after I would've needed to take her to a class further from school in opposite direction from home, I asked if would be ok to take the girl to X place to eat and stay on the area where we needed to be. MB said "No, that place is overpriced, she can have lunch at home".

I am not the quoted but you are wrong. It isn't extra money. When you are a professional nanny and you have a contract with guaranteed hours/pay, you know for a fact you are getting paid for all 52 weeks of the year. It is not extra money when you are already certain you'd be paid because those were the terms both parties agreed to when signing a contract. You may say that it is extra TIME OFF but regardless, that should not interfere with Christmas appreciation gestures!!!

Delivering mail, packages, etc., is not a duty of a nanny.

Merry Christmas and find a new job beginning Jan. 1, 2015.

Wow, you sound like one hell of a nanny. If the family gifts all the childrens' teachers, coaches, etc., they will certainly have something for the nanny. My guess is that they just hadn't finished pulling it together yet, or want to do something special but haven't picked it up yet, or one boss hasn't had a chance to talk to the other about a bonus amount, or something along those lines. People get busy this time of year.

If the nanny takes her charge to activities, school, etc., it is perfectly appropriate for her to delivery holiday gifts to those service providers.

Wow good for you. I wish I find family's like your. I am working with cheap people .

A family is cheap just because you didn't get money you didn't earn? Um, ok.

Earlier today I told my boss I had some gifts to the girls and asked what time she thought would be more appropriate to give them (as I knew after school would be chaotic since they were getting ready to leave on their 2 weeks vacation). So I think then, she scrambled something for me but it may as well had been nothing, let me tell you what it was: a box with mini nail polishes and 3 beauty SAMPLES, the ones you get at sephora with anything you buy.

Before she left she mentioned that she wrote me a check with the next 2 weeks included (I guess she wanted to make sure I wouldn't mistake it for a bonus!!!) and she seemed to think she was a Hero for giving me "advance pay" "cause "or else you'd have to wait till we are back" !!

These next 2 weeks by the way aren't exactly time off, as I have their dog and I am taking care of it for the whole time.

I've been with them since February. Housekeeper been with them for 4 years got pair of gloves and a workout top. No extra cash.

I am completely appalled by this. They are very wealthy. What gives??????

You are not entitled to money because your employer has money. Do your job and accept your payment. WTF is wrong with you.

+1

Any other job, you would find this out QUICK!!!!
