did any nannies get nothing for Christmas? RSS feed

After spending the day hand delivering Christmas gifts to the tutors, new piano teacher, bus driver, teachers, coaches, I finished my day and gave the kids their gifts from me. MB told me to have a great vacation and then sent me on my way. I received nothing for Christmas. I've been with them a few years. Always have gotten something. What gives?? I ended on Thursday for the break due to their travels so yesterday was the last day I'll see them. Super pissed right now hearing my friends talk about their bonuses. Especially since I had to deliver gifts to everyone else.

Did you get a gift from them last year?

If they normally give you something, I'd chalk it up to they simply forgot you were done early for the holidays. Seems weird they wouldn't give you anything.

I would give them a present of finding another job, and, maybe, give them a week's notice. This is not something you forget, it is intentional and I would also think they will be letting you go very soon.

Delivering mail, packages, etc., is not a duty of a nanny.

Merry Christmas and find a new job beginning Jan. 1, 2015.

So sorry op. That's truly awful and talk about rubbing salt in an open wound having YOU deliver gifts to all of them and you getting nothing.

I'm sure it's making you feel like they don't like you or that they will be letting you go. But keep your chin up and when you come back from break be the best nanny you can be anyway.

If you come back from vacation and realize this was definitely not an oversight, I would then start looking for new employment as a precaution. I'd also have a meeting to discuss how the relationship is going before quitting. In my experience if families begin to show lack of appreciation during common times to show it then they are unhappy with performance or trying to save money because they know they will be letting you go,

my guess is you'll get something later? They would't have you deliver to others then stiff you. Who does that? Either they forgot, or it's in the mail, or you'll get something via email or direct deposit. Calm down and enjoy the spirit of the season (hint, it's not gifts.) Make some cookies, go see a movie, an just relax. Either you'll get a gift or you won't. Most likely you will.

Are you being paid to be off between now and Christmas, because (unless you are using PTO or it was a pre-negotiated benefit) that sounds like a gift to me.

Two weeks paid vacation!? I have to work, except for the 25th and 1st.

I'm sorry OP.
I can understand why you are hurt and upset.
Try not to let it ruin your holiday and your opinion of them.

I'm confused. You said they are going away. If you are still working what makes you think yesterday was there last opportunity to give you a gift??

My NF gave me $5000 cash. I was floored. Sorry about your bonus =(

We are not giving cash bonus but over the course of the year have given a total of 7 weeks paid vacations.

Cash is better than extra time off. You're cheap.
