Another MB here. PP, you do realize that there are fees for getting checks cashed and for bouncing checks, right? The appropriate response from the MB would have been a heartfelt apology and to offer to give her cash that day to cover the bounced check and the fees. A college student has an excuse (inexperience) for bouncing a check. The 30/40/50-something parents who run a household and can afford to hire an employee should be not be cutting things so close that they are bouncing checks. |

she could'be waited until Monday to avoid the fees. It was her coice to go to check cashing instead of contacting MB first. MB did not say "wait until Tuesday when I get around to it" which would be really inexcusable.
If you really think that in nanny MB relationship that a paycheck cannot be a weekend late only because banks close over the weekend then fine. Then it is only fair that the next time nanny makes a mistake such as buying the wrong kind of juice using MB's money, that she also apologize and go return it and get the right kind in her own time that same night. This kind of relationship is not sustainable! |
| Bouncing checks is a serious business and, if over $200.00, it is a felony. Millionaire MB, she should have had you put in jail. |
I don't know why you are so wrapped around the axle on this. Banks close over the weekend. Before you go around threatening jail, it is only a felony if you wrote a check with intent to commit fraud. I lol ed at this. . |
This is not a relationship of equals! I referred my wonderful part-time housekeeper to an aquaintance who desperately needed for her large house, four sons, and two dogs (not house-trained). These people send all four children to private school, 6-week long summer camps, donate tens of thousands of dollars to charity and take expensive vacations several times a year. My housekeeper told me recently that they have been bouncing checks on her regularly. She lives paycheck to paycheck because her husband is ill and cannot work. I have no patience or respect for wealthy people who do not pay their employees on time. They are inconsiderate, lazy and cheap. Stop defending them. |
| bouncing checks regularly is one thing. we are not talking about that here. Also, there is overdraft protection so I just realized we would never bounce a check. I don't know why that check bounced that one time. Now I think my nanny might not have signed it and used the ATM to deposit. Shit happens sometimes. I know it must suck to live paycheck to paycheck but sometimes you have to wait two days to get your money and MB did not commit a sin that she has to apologize to you and make amends over a weekend in cash. |
So one of your checks bounced too, OP? Bet you didn't apologize either and now you're blaming it on your nanny. Hope you shrug off the next time somebody costs you time and money because, after all, "shit happens"! |
*PP (not OP) |
Banks were opened on Friday, Nov.22. Anytimeyou writea check and give as payment then you are guaranteei.g you have the money to cover the che k. |
Yes, I do. It's part of learning to live in society. If the financial loss is big enough, there are ways to get it back. It's called suing. There are laws for that and when and how you can do it. Learn a thing or two about the world, would you? Instead of fuming about your MB and moaning for days about what she "owes" you. |
Seriously? I can't believe this is so hard for some MBs (and I am one of them). DO NOT WRITE A CHECK THAT YOU CAN'T COVER IMMEDIATELY. PERIOD. I get that sometimes (very rarely) banks make mistakes. And in such (rare) occasions, I would expect the MB to immediately call the bank and try to rectify the situation. I usually think nannies are entitled on this site, but you take the cake for entitlement. Why the hell should your nanny be GRACIOUS to you after you wrote a bad check and it took a freaking WEEK for her to get her money? |
DID YOU READ MY THREAD AT ALL? Obviously, you didn't even read what I wrote. Do you call the bank immediately on a Saturday morning to rectify when the bank is closed? If you answer yes, "I jump and down at my bank's door when it is closed on a weekend" then OK. I have nothing to say to you. We just disagree that's all. Do you call the bank immediately to rectify the situation after your nanny told you she already cashed the check and got most of her paycheck? Let's clarify, OP is jumping up and down because MB didn't do the above. I think that OP is just posting as MB because she can't get over the fact that after she ALMOST had to wait 2 days over a weekend for her paycheck, MB said "Let's talk about it on Monday instead of Friday night over Thanksgiving." |
+1 And I am an MB, too. Haven't bounced a check since I was in college. All you have to do is keep your checkbook balanced and not write one against a negative balance. |
|
Why are all posts starting with "I am a MB and.. "
I think one nanny is replying to all of these, probably OP. |
| Why do people keep saying banks are closed on the weekends? I regularly go into my branch on Saturdays, so I would assume you could easily call as well... |
