MB bounced my check RSS feed

Another reason why the credit check should be run on the employer not the nanny lol

I'm an MB and I find this pretty ridiculous. OP should be paid on time, without fear of the check being bounced. And her MB should have IMMEDIATELY remedied the situation.

OP - can you ask your employers to start to direct deposit into your account every week? This is what we do with our nanny. And the nanny tax service we use takes care of the administrative aspect of it.

I guess you never worked freelance or contract, have you PP MB? Things like this happen often. OP is outraged over something pretty minor in the work world.

np here. Guess what? Nannies don't work freelance! It is not unreasonable to expect to be paid on time, or for a check not to bounce-- even if you do work freelance. Responsible people do not write checks they can't cover. Some people here astound me.

It's not that black and white. Other things go through---large bills, mortgages, etc. it's not as if people write checks on purpose knowing it can't be covered. Humans make mistakes...except you of course you must be perfect!!!!

If you can't stick to a budget, how can you expect your nanny to make it without the money due to her?

Personally, it's not the mistake that bothered me, but the MB's lack of immediate action. Having it happen on a day when banks were open, but putting it off until several days later, was unacceptable.

"millionaire" mb here.

I have bounced a check before.

Not sure what caused it because there was money but the bank bounced it anyway. I told the nanny I'd take care of it and to let me know of any fees that same night but I didn't want to just write a new check because I didn't know what caused it. It was probably an admin error. It worked out at the end and the check went through but it took a week to get resolved. My nanny was very gracious about it.

1. Mistakes happen. Let it go. I would have a different opinion of my nanny if she was not so gracious about it. Of course she would get her money but some things are out of my control.
2. Millionaires also have problems balancing checking accounts sometimes. It doesn't mean we keep a million dollars in our checking account all the time. Sometimes it goes down to $30. Gasp!

It cracks me up all the MBs saying nanny should just be "gracious" and to "get over herself". You guys like to throw around the word entitled for whenever a nanny says she deserves something. Well guess what? She is entitled to her check, on time in-full. Yes people make mistakes, but its not okay to sit on your ass after you make them. If the nanny didn't hold up her end of the employment arrangement her employer would not be gracious and understanding about it.

Nannies aren't working freelance. And no, I don't think this is "pretty minor" in the work world. I think people should get paid for the work they do. Bouncing a check is ridiculous. There really is no excuse for it.

MB here. This is really ridiculous. Are you trying to convince me that you had so little $$$ in your checking account that a check to your nanny for - what? - $600 resulted in problems? It is lazy and unacceptable to think that you can bounce checks to your nanny and for her to be gracious about waiting a week to be paid. Totally obnoxious on your part.

I don't expect my work to bounce my checks to me (tho they do direct deposit). And if they did, yeah - it would piss me off if it took them a week to figure out how to pay me. Professional nannies deserve a level of professionalism from their employers, no?

No, did you read my post? I said I had money but the bank for some reason which they never gave, bounced it initially then cleared it. When my balance gets low, I watch it carefully but have not bounced so far. But I know it can happen and it will have been a mistake.

I also recalled this happened to me on a different checking account years ago when I was in college. I guess banks also make mistakes.

In my case, again, there was nothing I can could do either until business opened again.

There are many more opportunities for nannies to make mistakes than employers. For instance, my nanny got the wrong kind of drink than what our family drinks last grocery store trip, etc. She does things differently than what I ask, or thought I asked. I know when you are trying to work together, she is human and I can't expect her to be 100% perfect on those things and as long as she gives good care to my children, I am very easy going on all her mistakes. As an employer, I am gracious and forgiving often.

If your paycheck is a little late because of some mistake on part of the employer and it is Thanksgiving weekend and you have to wait until Monday, I think you should let it slide.

I reread the OP.

She says that the check bounced so she went to a check cashing place, got her money, then told MB what happened.

So by then, she had gotten her money and was just telling MB what happened.

If I were MB, I would say the same thing too.

It's Thanksgiving weekend, you got your money, what else do you want?

PP. here. She posted the OP on Friday night at 10:30.

I thought perhaps because someone mentioned Thanksgiving, she posted this on Wednesday and had to wait until Monday for her money.

No, this happened Friday night, she went to a check cashing place, which gives you cash for the check right away, then called MB to tell her what happened.

Now she is asking if she should ask to be paid in cash every week.

OP sounds obnoxious and bitchy. If I were MB, since she already got her money and was just bit%%ing about it and if I were MB, looking into it on Monday would be the most I'd do. I probably won't even do anything since she is being so obnoxious about it and she got her money.
