I agree with wanting my employers to see how hard I work all day! Seriously, I don't understand the big deal. We are being filmed pretty much anyplace we go anymore.
I have no trouble at all taking a ten minute nap when my charge is sleeping and have no trouble being myself and acting silly when playing with her. It is the future, nannies. Cameras are getting cheaper by the minute and everyone will have them at some point. Get over yourselves. |

I’m MB and we have cameras inside and outside. This is ridiculous. I don’t have the time or desire to watch the cameras all day, I use them to check in form time to time and for general safety reasons. Get real nobody sets up cameras to watch you do anything “funny” |
A lot of workplaces have cameras. If you worked at Target, you'd have cameras pointed at you all day. What's the difference? |
The difference is that the cameras are filming you in a group with other people. In a public place. It is entirely different when someone is only filming YOU and you alone. In their home. Caring for their kid. Duh. Does this really have to be explained....??! Talk about comparing apples to oranges. |
The employers are not filming just you, PP, they are filming their child. It is not your home you are working in - it is theirs. You have no expectation of privacy in someone else's home beyond the most obvious (changing rooms, bathrooms). It really doesn't matter what you whine about anyway - cameras are getting so inexpensive that every family will have them and you will be out of work. |
We’ve had cameras in our home for years and our Nanny has always known that.
It’s never been and issue, they’re there primarily for security purposes. I’m busy at work during the day and barely use them, but it’s nice to know they’re there. Our three DCs are older now and move around more so I’ve noticed that our Nanny monitors where each of them is on an iPad that has live footage. |
After the stories my friends have told me about their lazy nannies and my own experiences, I will never have a nanny working in my home without a camera again. Our last nanny spent all day on her cell phone. Even our dogwalker was dishonest with us and did not walk the dog, but would send us texts reporting on their “walk.” Cameras are there to hold you accountable — and no we do not watch them all day. |
We were able to watch our Housekeeper show up late, leave early and sit on the couch watching TV!! |
This. I am a really good nanny and an excellent teacher. I go above and beyond for my charge every single day - and I want my employers to see that. I do not touch my phone until my charge is napping and I am 100% there for my charge. I want cameras in the house. |
How did she clean your house? Twitch her nose? |
Only creepy people (in my humble opinion) tend to watch other people on cameras.
|
+2 My MB actually had her mother peek in on my charge and I occasionally (which actually is against the law in my state as she didn't ask my permission) and her mother told her I was a fantastic nanny! These people with cameras in their homes are not creepy - they are worried about their children. |
Kids get hurt. It's a fact of life, but many, many employers assume that the nanny either did something to abuse the child or that the child got hurt because the nanny was neglectful. I want cameras. I want to be able to know that my employers may fly off the handle in the heat of the moment, but when they watch the tape, they will see that I didn't do anything wrong. |
It wasn’t clean, but the money was gone each time! Only lasted a few weeks and we fired her. |
