"millionaire" mb here. I have bounced a check before. Not sure what caused it because there was money but the bank bounced it anyway. I told the nanny I'd take care of it and to let me know of any fees that same night but I didn't want to just write a new check because I didn't know what caused it. It was probably an admin error. It worked out at the end and the check went through but it took a week to get resolved. My nanny was very gracious about it. 1. Mistakes happen. Let it go. I would have a different opinion of my nanny if she was not so gracious about it. Of course she would get her money but some things are out of my control. 2. Millionaires also have problems balancing checking accounts sometimes. It doesn't mean we keep a million dollars in our checking account all the time. Sometimes it goes down to $30. Gasp!
MB here. This is really ridiculous. Are you trying to convince me that you had so little $$$ in your checking account that a check to your nanny for - what? - $600 resulted in problems? It is lazy and unacceptable to think that you can bounce checks to your nanny and for her to be gracious about waiting a week to be paid. Totally obnoxious on your part. I don't expect my work to bounce my checks to me (tho they do direct deposit). And if they did, yeah - it would piss me off if it took them a week to figure out how to pay me. Professional nannies deserve a level of professionalism from their employers, no?
No, did you read my post? I said I had money but the bank for some reason which they never gave, bounced it initially then cleared it. When my balance gets low, I watch it carefully but have not bounced so far. But I know it can happen and it will have been a mistake. I also recalled this happened to me on a different checking account years ago when I was in college. I guess banks also make mistakes. In my case, again, there was nothing I can could do either until business opened again. There are many more opportunities for nannies to make mistakes than employers. For instance, my nanny got the wrong kind of drink than what our family drinks last grocery store trip, etc. She does things differently than what I ask, or thought I asked. I know when you are trying to work together, she is human and I can't expect her to be 100% perfect on those things and as long as she gives good care to my children, I am very easy going on all her mistakes. As an employer, I am gracious and forgiving often. If your paycheck is a little late because of some mistake on part of the employer and it is Thanksgiving weekend and you have to wait until Monday, I think you should let it slide.
