sup.y in most not all cases is a terrible prop. at young ages and most clubs take anyone willing to pay ...

too many players + hated traveling around all summer to inferno turf fields to average a couple min. total touches for a coach with little vested interest

maybe a vacation and evening camp with the coachthat will play for in the fall

... that should bring out the ra-ra club for you ...

We do it because our club team takes a couple of months off and it is ball touches, usually 2 practices a week and 8-12 games a season. But more importantly it has been a really fun team the past 2 years with players that will eventually play High school together.

Our club holds non-mandatory street-style pick/up scrimmages with some skills ahead of time July-August summer evenings so we don't do Super Y.

That's awesome. Perfect fit for the summer. Fun and developmental.

That is what summer is. Find your own balance, it is your time after all. Have the kids do nothing but chill, play Super Y, Street soccer, a camp or two, it is all up to you. There is no right or wrong answer here.

Summer is when I find the chance to give my boys creative training. But--their FAVORITE thing to do---even if they had soccer camp during the day---is to go to the turf park for pick-up games with kids of all ages, nationalities and abilities. It's near impossible to drag them home and it is a lit field---so in summer it is pretty late. It's comical to watch and the kids will pull out all of their craziest moves and celebration dances---sometimes a scuffle breaks out. Last summer, I watched my younger child, tiny 8-year old, beat up the kid that kept running behind the other kids and sliding into their ankles. All the kids had told him to stop about 10 times (his mother in Spanish even) and it took the littlest guy on the field to put an end to it. Nobody batted any eye (even the few parents watching). I think his mother actually clapped. That is how it goes in true pick-up . I have invited a few mothers from our neighborhood to tag along but they have never come back because they think it is "too rough". I actually bring my kids there for this reason--ha. My kids are often the only gringos.

Why would they want to do Super Y when they are having this much fun and nobody is directing them exactly where to put the ball or to stop dribbling?

I wonder if we are invited to Draper Park this Friday as well for pick up soccer?

I am pp. We have never been to Draper Park--and have Friday games now so can't do it. Is this a usual thing?

Wait a dog-gone minute here. They are having fun??? That's clearly not allowed. You need to re-think your priorities and get in line with a more DCUM-centric approach. Pay the $500 for crap training and awful matches and then get on here and bitch about it all summer. Now that's some real fun!

Yes. We also hold pick-up on Sundays at Draper from 2-4. Open to all.

Washington Spirit announces that VA GDA will be based out of Reston Soccer Club. They don't even have an 03 girls team. How is this going to work?

What a mess

This is why people will stick with the ecnl. There is not a chance the ECNL would go anywhere near a club like Reston.

Maybe they are hoping that players will just go there from other clubs and the teams will be created. I'm sure they aren't banking on Reston's teams to create the teams. No 03 as stated, 04s & 02s aren't even at the top of their age group in NCSL. Is there a link to the announcement? Reston doesn't seem capable of supporting this.

Yes, anyone who wants to come to pickup soccer on friday is invited out to Draper Drive Park again 5:30 - 7:00, U12 and younger boys and girls... slightly older kids can play too if they want.

We will do this every week at least through the end of February.
