DS has always had boxer briefs. Always. He was only exposed to "tightie whities" when he had accidents in preschool and he sent him home in the briefs the school supplies. No, correction! I did buy him pack of superhero briefs once. But he wore then as a costume-type thing. I'm not sure he thought of them as underwear. |
DS wears swim trunks to camp everyday, so commando during the day and boxer briefs (and a tee) as pjs at night. |
My son got them at 5 because he hated briefs. |
This may seem a bit gross to some, but our 10yo actually doesn't wear underwear and never has. It made PT easier when he was young and he likes being free now. I never saw the problem with this (he keeps himself clean) and it is less laundry for me. The pediatrician says that this is fine, and DH says that it is good to have some freedom "down there." We will probably get him some boxers and suggest that he wear them when he starts changing with other boys. I am actually surprised that this isn't more common, seeing as how (from the comments here) many boys dislike wearing underwear. |
My boys including the oldest who is 10 wear character briefs. ODS tried boxers and didn't like them. I let them choose their underwear. |
I think it is likely a combination of reasons this isn't common: - little boys aren't the best wipers - older boys tend to wear jeans, which chafe - boys shorts tend to be quite loose, meaning you can easily see up them if he is sitting, which kids tend to do at school (on the floor) a lot. |
Waste of money to buy to try. Just go to Kohls and they have some boxers that are displayed on hangers, you can just try those on in the dressing room. If he likes them then buy a package of the cheaper ones. |
One boy says to another boy; "At least I am man enough to wear boxers, I don't wear those embarrassing tighty whities like you do". Which boy do you want your son to be? Any boy that does not wear boxers will get picked on. Boys that wear briefs also have to keep reaching around and pick them out of their butt crack. Any boy with visible panty lines will get tortured. You must teach your son to push the bottom of the boxers down, so they will bunch up. |

Man, w all the sports going in with my household I feel like the three boys are going through two pair each day. Briefs and boxers!!
When do jock straps start? HS? |
Boxer briefs, just like his dad... |
Me being a white briefs guy my who life, that's what my sons wear too. I've never heard either of them complaining about wear briefs,I thought for sure by middle school they'd be wanting something else but neither asked so my wife and I just continue buying them white briefs.
If they wanted something else I'd buy them colors briefs instead. I personally don't like boxers or boxers briefs so I'd try to keep them away from those |
When DS was around 5 we bought him a couple different kinds of underwear and asked him which ones he likes. He's been wearing boxer briefs ever since. |
Boxers from day 1. The occasionally will wear boxer briefs but 90% of their underwear is boxers. |
I don't get how boxers offer any support |
