When do you switch your kid from briefs to boxers?

I love how some of my old posts get resurrected.

My DS kept asking for boxers b/c that's what is what dad wears. Many different iterations later, he still prefers briefs. Oh, well.

I don't get how boxers offer any support

They don't., and they aren't supposed to. Not everyone wants or needs support. For those who don't, boxers become a socially acceptable alternative to not wearing underwear, and also make good sleepwear.

I have 3 sons that all wear briefs (aged 5, 7 And 9)

My 5 yr old has no problem with briefs because all of his friends wear them and at that age, most boys do

My 7 yr old still wears briefs but gets a bit of trouble from boys at school who don’t

But my 9 yr old (also wears briefs as I said) gets a lot more trouble from the other boys at school because he still wears that style. For example, the other boys like to hold him down on the floor whilst another boy pulls his briefs up really high at the front, record it and then show it to the girls.

They’ve also recorded him getting a wedgie in just his pants
But the worst thing they did was take a picture of him with the front of his briefs being pulled to the side leaving his private parts on show. They then locked him out of the changing room in his pants and he had to wait for a teacher to unlock it again so he could put his clothes back on

It’s not just him though, it’s his 2 friends as well but they get it worse than him because they wear boxer briefs so their pants are frequently pulled off completely

My son is a bit different because he will wear boxer-briefs to school to avoid that problem.

However at home, he wears Briefs. (I don’t mean American briefs, I mean like European. We got some when we went to the Uk a few years ago.

Now it’s important that you know this before I tell you this story: we live in a house that borders a forested area so we do own a little bit of that forest (around 2 acres) so with my son being the adventurous 10 year old that he is, we let him play out in the land that we own. We just make him take a wallow talkie with him so that we can contact him if we need to.

So the story...
It was a relatively hot day in the summer break and my son had invited a friend that he has know for most of his life to stay with us for 2 weeks (his parents were on holiday.) this meant that my son was very eager to show his friend around the forest are that he had built dens in.

So we went through the usual procedure of giving the walkie talkie over to him and saying that it is important to keep it with him. (This is where I get back to the thread) both boys wanted to take their clothes off to avoid getting to hot, so we let them and out they went in briefs to wander the forest.

That night, they both slept in a tent in the garden. This immediately causes some problems in my head because my son is a. Well.. he sleeps without anything on, he is a full on naked sleeper. So I made them sleep in sleeping bags (despite the tent having a built in mattress)

Unfortunately, when I checked on them early on the next morning, my son was completely spread eagle and had his friend lying on top of him. The worst thing is, his friends face was basically touching his gentleman area.

So I woke them up and they didn’t really care because it turned out, they’d both seen inside each others underwear before that time anyway. This showed as both boys turned up to breakfast fully unclothed and were sat with their legs out on the couch when eating as well.

Dad here - I've always worn briefs. This is one of the funniest questions I've read on DCUM. DS also just wears briefs at this point. Maybe he'll switch, but moms (most of the audience here), some of us guys wear briefs and are perfectly happy doing do.

You look dorky, trust us.

Wandering naked in the forest isn't the brightest idea - so many things to scratch and scrape sensitive areas on. Clothes also protect you from getting things like poison oak on sensitive areas.
Your boy and his friend are probably gay which is fine, but next time they should wear clothes in the forest just the same.

That HA organic cotton is WONDERFUL and feels amazing next to your skin. They should make underwear in adult sizes too - it would be very popular.

Ditto the Hanna Andersson for softness and quality of cotton. DS has worn these since he was potty-trained. I do wish Hanna Andersson would get less "babyish" designs, though. DS prefers HA for comfort, but likes Boden designs better because they are not so babyish.

He has preferred boxers since he was four, as briefs dig into his legs at the junction when he's active and irritates his skin.

I was on a hot summer day outing with my boys, about 7 and 5 or maybe 6 and 4. They both kept digging at their underpants. I kept asking - do you have to go to the bathroom? They kept saying no. I thought they were holding themselves to try to hold it in. I kept telling them to stop. Finally, one said (it seemed very loud at the time) - we don't have to go to the bathroom, but our underwear is so hot and sticky! Switched to boxers that weekend. In the end they both like boxer briefs best; I guess it has the best of both worlds.

DS has always worn boxer briefs. Was sent hoe once after a potty accident and found the briefs they'd given him hilarious.

How is boxer briefs any cooler than briefs? They have more of the same fabric than briefs. The regular boxers I can see being cooler in hot weather.

Mine have had both in the drawer since age 4 and wear both.

Ours too. He used to hate wearing underwear and one day my mom laid out his clothes and put out pj bottoms thinking they were boxer briefs. My son was so happy I ran out and got him boxer briefs.

DH here. I wear boxer briefs and briefs. Has been that way for most of my life. Usually more of boxer briefs. Cannot stand boxers. And don't give a f*** if someone thinks less of me for not wearing boxers.
