When do you switch your kid from briefs to boxers?

If you get this wrong, it's not the end of the world. When I met my dh, over 20 years ago, he was still wearing tight whities, and I had to tell him that if this relationship had a future he would need to get acquainted with boxers. He got the message.

why? why does it matter? I bought boxers for my nine year old by accident and he hated them.

What about boxer briefs, have you tried those? I dont think it really matters and the PP was probably joking, partly. My husband has one pair of tightie whities and sometimes he puts them on to wear to bed and its kind of like a joke, we both laugh about it. Honestly, I didnt think men still wore them. My 2 boys and my husband all wear boxers or boxer briefs.

18:27 here. Yes, I was mostly joking. I just found them horribly unsexy, and I thought he looked like a little boy. So I suggested something else.

I had a similar conversation with my DH before we married. Perhaps it was triggered by the traumatic memory of seeing my own father in his tws.

ok so I am embarrassed to admit this but I googled pics of the two-my son wears boxer BRIEFS, I thought the tightie whities were the same as briefs. He doesn't like regular boxers. The things you learn here...

We switched to boxer briefs shortly after he went into underwear. He hated wearing underwear. One day Grandma put on his pj bottoms as underwear by mistake (we were visiting, she got up with him and picked out his clothes). He loved it. They were pretty much like boxer briefs, so I went out and bought him some.

My DS (12) went from diapers to training underwear to Hanna Anderson's knit boxers. They are less snug than boxer briefs but not as full as regular boxers. He wears traditional cotton poplin boxers to sleep in in summer. I think he will start to wear the poplin ones as he gets older and my in some boxer briefs.

What is wrong with tighty whites is they are ugly, old-fashioned, dorky, and, once he is changing in front if other boys, they will laugh their behinds off at him. It will be embarrassing for him. DS had one friend who wore cheesy character briefs in 2nd or 3rd grade. DS (and other boys) did not make fun of that boy but did ask what the heck he was wearing. They had never seen those underwear before. Starting in 4th all the boys change into PE clothes together at school so we clued his mom in before it got to that.

Mine are 14 and 16 and have never experienced that. They still wear tightie whities. They have been in charge of picking out their own underwear since 5?

Funny thread. My 9 yr old's underwear drawer runs the gamut from character-picured tighty whitey briefs from target to solid colored boxer briefs from old navy to patterned tighty whitey briefs from gap - he wears whatever is on top of the drawer. When he was younger someone got him true boxers and he hated trying to tuck the boxers into his slim leg pants.
