When do you switch your kid from briefs to boxers?

Anonymous
i have never worn anything but briefs. I am in my 60's. my wife doesn't mind.

This thread is hilarious.

My 2nd grader has a combo of boxer briefs (with various basketballs, baseballs, etc on them!) and character briefs. He's fine with whatever.

He only gets offended if his little brother's Superman undies get sorted into his pile!

Good to know that the slim cut pants don't work with boxers. DS is quite slim, so I guess I'll stick with boxer briefs the next time we stock up.

DS is 5, and we just got him some boxer briefs and he's a big fan. But he is mad that when you buy briefs, there are three in a package, and when you buy boxer briefs, there are only two.

Yes, this bothers him. At 5. He's a little weird.

Mine is 3 and prefers boxer briefs. He has some briefs he calls "too hard".

He wears boxer briefs because that is what Daddy wears. I'm sure at some point he'll discover there is other underwear out there.

LMAO!!!

He wears traditional cotton poplin boxers to sleep in in summer. I think he will start to wear the poplin ones as he gets older and my in some boxer briefs.

What is wrong with tighty whites is they are ugly, old-fashioned, dorky, and, once he is changing in front if other boys, they will laugh their behinds off at him. It will be embarrassing for him. DS had one friend who wore cheesy character briefs in 2nd or 3rd grade. DS (and other boys) did not make fun of that boy but did ask what the heck he was wearing. They had never seen those underwear before. Starting in 4th all the boys change into PE clothes together at school so we clued his mom in before it got to that.

Mine are 14 and 16 and have never experienced that. They still wear tightie whities. They have been in charge of picking out their own underwear since 5?

Where do they go to school? What sports teams do they play on. Both are part of it (the boxer v tighty whiteys choice). Honest to God, I was taught that boys from "good families" wore boxers, the nice boys, preppy boys, private school boys. This may or may not be true but my own personal experience would support this generalization.

Um, just who "taught" you about boys' underwear?? Seriously, I want to know. Did your mother sit you down and say, Dear, there's something you should know....

This is so bizarre. DH once told me that boxers are uncomfortable. He wears briefs. I think he looks pretty sexy in them. He is from a "good famiily" whatever that means (his dad was in the Navy and was an engineer, mother a teacher, they were decent hardworking people who made a good living and had a big house - seems like a good family to me). DH is a lawyer and is a very nice person.

My own boys don't seem to care at all about their underwear, as long as they have clean ones that fit. And as far as I know none of their friends do either. The subject has never once come up.

So glad we don't live in a school district like the above posters where mothers actually talk about their sons' underwear to other mothers to tell them they've bought the wrong kind. That is creepy.

Never.

Boys 5, 8, 10 and 12 all in briefs, never been an issue.
with the oldest it did cross my mind but when we go shopping he has the chance to switch each time.
don't both him as long as he doesn't have angry birds printed on the butt anymore.

I think switching does happen but it might be a teen thing and then again everyone is different
ill get back to you on that.

My 4 year old went to regular boxers last summer. He doesn't like the feeling of being "scrunched." Hanes makes boxers (not boxer briefs) for kids starting in size 4.

You dug up a years-old thread to talk about boys underwear?

It is really up to your son. I would resent anyone telling me what style of underwear to wear.
