Boycott Virginia - new abortion law, new personhood law..... War on woman

If you were abusing or killing off children, the law could step in to stop you -- even though they're your kids. An argument exists that the unborn needs the state to take his/her/its side -- sort of like appoint a guardian ad litem for the unborn, just as they would do for your allegedly abused kids.

Ever read the handmaid's tale? You should.

They could just as easily decide that the abortionist has to show a video of a heartbeat during the procedure. At least that does not invade any one's vagina.

Anyone actually know why this isn't the proposed law? So, would everyone be satisfied with that compromise?

I'm the one who wrote that. I don't think anyone would be satisfied with a compromise. Conservatives just want to end abortion. All abortion. Except rape, incest, life of the mother. Right? So these little games they play - wanding, videos, or using the width of the abortion clinic aisles as an excuse to shut it down, are really just about that goal.

On the other side, liberals would say that the govt has no right to dictate even a video being shown. I think the posters who have talked about the humiliation and emotional distress would say it's not OK. People who feel strongly about reproductive rights don't want any fetters. Slippery slope and all that.

I don't speak for all liberals. Speaking for myself, my point was merely, govt and vaginas don't mix. I don't know about govt and videos. But forced wanding is way, way, way beyond the pale.

I think some women are afraid they will lose that disconnect between the developing child inside them and the procedure they plan to undertake. As noted the developing child has no real voice as im pretty sure the child would not choose to go through an abortion itself. Since there is no way for the child to communicate, a monitor showing it is alive gives it one last attempt at life that the mother will ultimately decide upon. If the pregnancy is still terminated, then the women will have to deal with what she saw on that monitor for the rest of her life.

Look, I understand the goal. But the government simply CANNOT dictate vaginal procedures. PR campaigns by anti abortion groups are fine - "Abortion stops a beating heart". But within the doctor's office, and involving the vagina, NO WAY.

If you ask me where the anti-abortion movement really needs to put its muscle is in PREVENTING unwanted pregnancy. Eliminate (most of) the demand for abortion.

11:52 here. I am fully pro choice. I am am also fully in favor of giving the developing child a voice. I say if you decide to kill your kid, you should be haunted by these images you see on the screen for the rest of your life.

Please write the governor of Virginia using the link above. I live in Virginia and am disgusted. As an earlier PP said, they are 'shaming women' into a decision. Fuck Virginia Republicans and whoever wrote this amendment and whoever voted for it. I am so outraged!

And you will all go to hell for feeling this way. If you are Christian, and I believe all 3 of you to be, who are you to judge? God will make his judgement on her.

Disgusting people. You don't think the woman who chooses to abort isn't already haunted by her decision? Shame shame on you

12:10 here. I do believe in God but im not a christian or any other religion. I do think im a decent human being though. I also think its too bad if a women is already hauntrd by the decision. That will pass but seeing the monitor showing the to be aborted developing child will be a deserved lasting reminder.

talk about a nanny state. doesn't anyone see the irony of conservatives advancing this kind of legislation? I advocate we make people who buy handguns go look at corpses of children who died from gun violence before they can purchase them. Anyone with me?

hmmmm. I'm just trying to protect the babies who don't have their moms looking out for them. I am ok with the day after pill (or week after pill, or whatever it is). I am ok with birth control. So if you make a mistake, or something unplanned happens, take the day after pill. But 2-3 months later I think its too late, sorry.

I think we need to pass legislation to force men to have a large zucchini shoved up their ass before they can be permitted to receive treatment for disorders of the prostate. This is not punishment, of course, simply "educational". Many men don't even know where their prostate is.
