I thought this at first but then I realized a vaginal probe is not needed to determine gestational age. Do you think women walk into these clinics like they are just going in for mani/pedi? No, vaginal ultrasound is not more invasive then the actual procedure but it adds insult to injury and is not necessary. The purposes and intent of this law is purely designed to inflict intentional emotional distress, would you like to hear the heart beat, no, she would not like to hear the heart beat, in fact I'm willing to bet she doesn't want to even be there in the first place. Furthermore, it represents one step in government regulated health care and I do not mean providing insurance I mean these total idiots - and I mean all if them not just one party or the other but all- are one step closer in being able to tell what you can and cannot due when it comes to your health, medical care and body this perhaps, is the scariest part of all.

When I had my first pregnancy I unfortunately miscarried. With the second and third pregnancies, I really wanted a vaginal ultrasound "to date the pregnancy" but in reality just to be reassured that everything was OK. My insurance though wouldn't pay for it as it wasn't medically necessary. I guess in VA women who feel as I did could just say that they were considering terminating and BOOM they get a free vaginal ultrasound? Cool!

Here's an idea - before a woman can get an abortion in VA, she needs to sign a consent form stating that she is aware that her child has free health care up till age 21, including coverage for any special needs the child might have, AND a free college education in the state of VA, that she is giving up by ending the pregnancy.

Make her sign THAT sucker!

AND she has to submit to the providing of free childcare as well, paid for by the state of VA... up until the age of 5. In addition, make her sign that she is aware that the state of VA is committed to providing for her physical needs during pregnancy. That'll make her think twice about having a legal procedure, for sure.
