What *should* Democrats be doing?

What *should* other democrats be doing? Can we get specific and then demand it? I agree that vetoing the crypto bill is obvious. What else? Can they bring Congress to a standstill? BArnstorm the nation? Protest in the streets? What next in the leadership of the moment?

Who cares about Biden anymore? People have real problems. Talk about those kitchen table issues.

It’s not about Biden it’s about blatantly covering for him. We were told not to believe our lying eyes for over a year. I have lost respect for our leadership. The fish rots from the head.

Yeah well now the same people who you were mad at supposedly covering for him now claim he was so bad off they were supposedly considering a wheelchair for him which is wildly insane to me because we saw him riding bikes and waving to people with our own two eyes. Nobody's going to gaslight me into disbelieving what I saw with my own eyes. Riding a bike and waving is NOT "wheelchair" material and it makes the commentary about how bad off Biden was seem pretty hyperbolic and over the top. Sure, Biden had some bad days but I don't actually think he was anywhere near as bad as they want to claim and the accusations of a "cover up" are also over the top.

Listen to the Hur audio. I don’t care if Biden could walk a tightrope, his mind had failed.

Biden's gone. I am a lot more concerned about the incoherent word salad routinely coming out of Trump's mouth, and the deranged, demented tweets he posts on the regular, and how he's been wrecking the economy and destroying all norms and decency.

The leadership that lied to us is still in place. Again, it’s not about Biden. Will the millions of people like me that are fed up with the gaslighting from our own party vote Republican? Of course not. Will we stay home? That is a distinct possibility. I will seriously consider any Independent candidate as an alternative as well.

You understand that it’s completely insane to not vote for the party with the best chance of beating the fascists, right? Oh no, they lied (assuming it’s true) about Biden, so I choose vote for evil by default?

I don’t think that you are real. I think that you must be very much a member of the same group or groups that pushed people to stay home in the last election because of the Palestinians.

The truth is, Biden is still more capable than Don is now and this entire manufactured outrage is designed to poison the opposition party of real Americans, the Deomoxrats.

np: Trump is evil and destructive and is ruining this country trying to feed his insatiable ego. I will vote for anyone that is best positioned to beat him.

BUT I wholeheartedly agree with disgust with the Democratic Party leadership. Like Trump, they put their career interests above what's good for the country.

It's been going on for a long time -- certainly since the smugness and entitlement of those around the Clintons -- and it's built into the way the DNC elects members and is governed.

The Republicans of today are shameless, greedy, hypocrites.

The Democrats have principals but the leadership gets deluded by thinking they are so special and so needed. They are far better for the country than the Republicans, but not as good as they need to be.

There is no Dem leadership currently so there is no one thinking they are special and needed.

The Clintons were both elite politicians and Bill was a worthy two-term POTUS whose nominations were justifiable. Biden was always a complete joke of a politician outside of Delaware and he never should have been considered for the nomination; especially at 77 years old. The Dem Party was functioning adequately when Clinton and Obama served 16 out of 24 years from 1993 through 2017. Don't let the one Biden mistake taint your view of what has been and can again be a high functioning Dem Party.

Ah but you are wrong. There may not be a leading national candidate, but there is party leadership. There is leadership in the Senate and the House and a network of fundraisers and consultants and aides. Do you know how Democratic Convention delegates get elected? It's not very democratic, and is less democratic than the selection of delegates to the Republican Convention.

Fundraisers, aids, anyone working towards Biden's re-election absolutely didn't know exactly where Biden stood from a mental fitness standpoint. The last thing Biden's inner circle would do is to let the donors and fundraisers know how unfit the person they are investing in is. You don't tell the dealership about weird noises your car is making at 70mph when seeking top dollar for your trade in.

The bottom line is- no one who had anything to do with any cover up of Biden's failing mental health will be anywhere close to ballots in 2026 and 2028.

The entire world could see how mentally unfit Biden was.

The Republicans will smear anyone and everyone with culture war BS. They did it to Bob Casey and others even though Casey didn't support any of the things they accused him of.

That's the thing we need to figure out how to deal with. Maybe go after lying, smearing Republicans through the courts, with big Dominion-style lawsuits to break and bankrupt them until they stop lying. Or, if you can't fight them in the courts, turn the tables and start smearing Republicans with every vile accusation possible.

Perhaps we start by setting up a process so that the nominee competes against others who want the gig on a level playing field? We wouldn't even need to invent a process, we would need only to stop subverting it. Crazy talk, I guess...

Instead, let's keep giving it to whose "turn" it is, no matter what.

The party occupies a hellscape of its own design, and is in dire need of a chaperone for the most basic of tasks. This is entirely self-inflicted.

Read this Atlantic article about the inability of the "comfort class" (that's us) to connect with the rest of America. It is shockingly honest, and therefore is prone to being dismissed reflexively. But please read it and at least discuss its flaws.

+1

Replacing an elderly unfit POTUS with an elderly, unfit, unhinged POTUS has to be the most asinine thing American voters have ever done.

They should *not* be putting all their effort behind Buttigieg. The US wouldn't elect 2 high capable women - there's NO way they'll elect a gay guy.

I really like Buttigieg. I think he's be an amazing president, but we aren't there yet as a nation.

The future is Osoff. Perhaps with a Whitmer VP. Maybe, just maybe, if we have another decade to pass, the US will be in a better place to elect a female president like Whitmer.

The future is also *not* the Dems playing nice and going high when they go low. The Dems need to learn to play just as dirty.

Find a white/male (heterosexual) candidate who is a moderate; has an immigration/crime plan; willing to fight dirty; and someone to start campaigning ASAP. They should be holding rallies, vocal about Trumps nonsense, and very visible. Easy peasey. somehow they’ll screw it up.

I’m so sick of this BS that Democrats don’t follow a primary process. First, incumbents of either party rarely have serious primary challengers. Who was primarying Ronald Reagan in 1984? GHWB in 1992? Donald Trump in 2020? Second, Democrats had vigorous primary processes in 2004, 2008, and 2020. Even 2016 when Hillary was favored, Bernie Sanders competed. 2024 was a screw up, but again challenging an incumbent is usually considered political suicide so it’s not surprising that the DNC and viable candidates sat on their hands.

They should be doing their own version of Contract With America in which they clearly spell out what they are for and hope to do with a majority in Congress.
Stopping the Trump agenda could be item 10 but the first 9 items should spell out what they want to do to make America better.

Pete’s problem is that he didn’t do anything while in Sec of Trans. So much is coming out about how things have been deteriorating for years. Clearly these are things he could have gotten started on and apparently he didn’t and perhaps made worse. His connecting to the failed Biden admin is a problem. And for those who want to say the Biden admin was a great success, just stop. Those of us in government know how rudderless it was for 4 years. I am 25 year fed and there was never a time when so little was done and so little was even attempted. And it wasn’t Covid for all 4 years. No one was running anything.

Being a part of an unpopular POTUS Administration is politically damaging to a politician's future aspirations but the impact is less for those who weren't the VP. Pence and Harris, for example, will likely never be successful again if running for Federal Government level positions. I don't think Buttigieg's political career is over by any means but I also don't see 2028 Dem nominee in his future.

What Dems do have going in their favor is the fact that the 2028 GOP nominee is very likely to be a Trump endorsed candidate with close ties to Trump and therefore the 2028 nominee will be hindered by their ties to an unpopular POTUS.

Pete increased the number of air traffic controllers hired for the first time in many years, and he kept the skies safe. He proposed more funding for the software but it was voted down in Congress.
